Collapse!

Jack gets to sleep in my room right now...when he is not sleeping with his pet boy, my son Robert! Well, actually I guess I am sleeping in his room.

Faith, who gets to sleep with me for the moment...

Yesterday I collapsed. I have been grappling with MRSA since June and, along with the other injuries and etc. I apparently reached a physical tipping point. I have slept or been barely cognizant for something like 31 of the last 36 hours or so. I am back to strict bedrest now and am typing with a laptop on my, well, lap. I feel pretty weak but will try to stay awake for four or five hours and then allow myself to crash out again.

I am of little use to my family or my work or anybody right now. 21 years of taking doctor-prescribed narcotics, three near-death accidents and now months of imposed sedentary living with lots of pain and little sleep just all piled up. Once I said, I give up, and allowed myself to truly rest I found I could sleep more than four or five hours at a time. I was worried about work, about duties around the home but now I am not. I am giving my body a chance to rest and heal.

Even now I feel so weak that it is a chore to write these words. I am not eating much. I am sometimes watching TV or perusing websites on this laptop but mostly just laying here on this bed that becomes a recliner. My dog, Faith, loves this because she gets to sleep with me when I am down here and my dog, Jack, lays down on his bed close to my feet. My fabulous wife doesn't sleep well if she doesn't hear me snore, but when I am not there she is not worried about hearing me and she probably sleeps better, too. Yes, IAMB, we are most definitely dog people. I hope you figure out a way to slice-and-dice the dreaded MRSA and receive a lifetime of grants in the process.

Maybe IAMB can find a cure for MRSA and Highboy will pray for me and God will allow me to heal if I allow God to let me rest. I have been fighting this rest. Apparently I must submit to it. I may not do much until after Thanksgiving, but if that is what it takes then so be it. I have been a grey man pushing a grey rock up a grey hill and making no progress. Serious depression waits at the end of that road.

No, Josh Hartnett never responded to me. He is also not Dr. Safarti. I cannot blame Jonathan Safarti for Hartnett's math notational skills. I have also pointed out that, despite the error in the way Hartnett posted his equation the math actually worked. It was like a sentence with bad grammar that still stated a truth...or an error...clearly.

The teacher did not seem to actually look to deeply into what her student gave her in response but instead gave uninformed and robotic replies, as I will show when I feel better.

Just between you and me, I am always so full of something (information? BS? stories? You guys and others have differing opinions) that writing is often easier than doing anything else. So I will write some things as we go on. I know I am a big mouth. I make a living that way (when I am healthy) and my friends like me that way. I love dogs and people and God, of course, and I tell the truth the way I see it. Disagree with me or not. I prefer to tell you what I REALLY THINK and get the same in return.

The replies to SDI so far deserve more thorough responses as I feel better.

As to those who wonder why I am having so many physical challenges, all I can say is I am not paralyzed (well, just a little) nor mentally deranged (in my opinion) and I am certainly not dead. I admire people who fight against more than I do and still succceed.

It may be that all I need to do is have one long thorough rest to take the momentum back from MRSA and be able to exercise and work and even have fun again.

I share this because to some extent you who read and comment here are my friends in a virtual way. I do not do trackbacks and stuff to get more readership but I do appreciate those who say something back. Yes, even you, cranky and lava and taxandrian! Because some of you have scolded me and been scolded back over the course of time, we have an oddball relationship and if I found that you were sick I would be concerned and pray for you. So I tell all this to you guys so you know what is up.

Finally, since writing is much easier for me than most things I will likely begin posting on the SDI questions within a day or two even if I don't do much of anything else. So I will see you guys around...

SDI -High School Indoctrination Version.

Featured picture from the Gleepy Journal!

I enjoy hanging out with teenagers because they are more likely to be open and honest about what they believe and not so set in their ways they cannot consider new ideas. Yes, they tend to have a sense of invincibility that has not been worn off of them and there are many years of experience layers they do not yet have. I have the blessing of being able to work with and teach large numbers of them. I also keep my eyes and ears open so I may also learn from them.

Post-teenagers (ages 20-25 or so) are not that different from teens and I interact with, work with and live with several of such individuals. In short, I am surrounded by large numbers of young people who are attending public high school and college classes. I suspect it would not surprise you that the college kids especially tend to complain about the liberal and agnostic or even atheist leanings of their professors.

Many of these young people I consider to be friends as well as students and also, as most of them are Christians like myself, they are also my brothers and sisters. One of these young men shared a paper he had turned into his science teacher and her response to him, which turned into a dialogue between them by means of papers and websites shared and comments written in margins. He wanted me to see the result of the exchange of ideas between himself and his teacher.

Now, actually this teacher is not a terrible educator. I want to say in advance that she did not grade my friend off for disagreeing with her. She did not require him to do extra work because he had a differing point of view, nor did she cut off all discussion. She gave him a 100% for fulfiling the assignment and mentioned that she enjoyed hearing his views. So she is not punishing him for disagreeing with her.

On the other hand, she did not give his views any real consideration. She gave us a classic example of SDI.

You can go view the article at the link above. It is a defense of Darwinism published in the National Geographic Magazine that is completely sold out to the idea that, no, Darwin was NOT wrong. Part of the assignment was for students to read and intelligently react to the article. Here is a quote to give you an idea of the general slant of this story:

"Evolutionary theory, though, is a bit different. It's such a dangerously wonderful and far-reaching view of life that some people find it unacceptable, despite the vast body of supporting evidence. "

Dangerously wonderful? What, is Mickey Spillane writing for science magazines now? The only thing dangerous about Darwinism is if you are a scientist and don't believe it, because that viewpoint will be dangerous to your career. Wonderful? A theory that depends on mutation and millions of generations of death is wonderful? What would be bad, then?

Far-reaching? Okay, Darwinists have to reach really far to try to connect transitional forms in the fossil record and to make up just-so stories to explain why everything living not only has the appearance of being designed that it turns out to have a remarkably complex blueprint present in every cell. Darwinists have to reach very far to explain how space came from nowhere, something came from nothing, life came from non-life not to mention how systems like photosynthesis could have possibly have developed by a series of random mutations. They have to reach right past the records concerning thousands of generations of fruit flies and hundreds of thousands of generations of bacteria that have failed to begin to evolve into something else.

The vast body of evidence is a lot like that vast new wardrobe of that emperor who was sold some new clothes. In fact, virtually every aspect of Darwin's contentions have been disproven. The Galapagos Finches which inspired him are not evolving at all, they are simply a species that has information for different sizes of beaks within the gene pool so that the population can adjust to new conditions. Darwinism has had to be changed and rewritten over the years as science began to truly understand the nature of cells, the increasing complexity thereof, the blueprint known as DNA and so on. Uniformitarianism has been disproven. All the sedimentary rock layers of the world are associated with water events. Catastrophism, a necessity for Bible-believing creationists, is the only possible explanation for the rock layers found in real life. As it turns out, molecules do not evolve and there is no evidence that cells do, either. Adaption is simply natural selection choosing the traits already available within the creature's gene pool.

My friend's teacher tried to rebut his arguments and began her rebuttal thusly:

"...the issue here is not evolution, it is an uncontested concept as far as I am concerned."

Whoa! Let's stop right here. This science teacher has decided that Darwinism, unproven as it is, has become fact within her mind and cannot even be considered to be otherwise! Wow. Uncontested? Her own student is contesting it!

She goes on to say that he is "...trusting misleading or deceitful third partie's translations of information. I am absolutely certain of the purposeful deception."

Now this is interesting. For instance, Jonathan Safarti of the Creation on the Web website is one of his resources. This man is a chess grandmaster, a certified genius who has several doctorates and publishes Darwinist peer-reviewed papers against the flow of Darwinism as well as papers submitted to Intelligent Design groups. He is so brilliant that Hugh Ross refuses to debate him on the science behind the Big Bang theory, even though Dr. Ross is an astrophysicist and Dr. Safarti is first and foremost a physical chemist. Creation Ministries International publishes peer-reviewed journals and is involved in intense research. It is a reputable organization. She could not begin to show them to be either deceptive or misleading or ignorant.

My friend specified answersingenesis.org as reference material and the teacher accused them of misleading the uneducated public! That is a ridiculous thing to say and indicates that she either cannot or will not try to digest any information that she hasn't already accepted and glued into her mind. That site was founded by Dr. Ken Ham, an environmental biologist and teacher and lecturer and author with plenty of experience and credentials on his side.

The Institute for Creation Research is another organization (founded by the famous hydrologist Dr. Henry Morris) devoted to studying the evidences from a creationist perspective. IDthefuture is one authored from the ID point of view, regardless of any Biblical information. There are many such organizations peopled by actual scientists studying the evidences without being chained to a Darwinist point of view. The RATE project is an example of some of the work being done by such groups, often working in tandem to find answers to questions presented by available information.

Anyway, my friend made a number of comments on the article, printed out some evidences that argued against assertions made by the article and turned all of this in to the teacher. Some of the things he noted were pretty obvious. I mean, by now anyone with any integrity acknowledges that the Haeckel embroyo series was a canard, a series of fakes invented by Haeckel to try to support evolutionary teachings. Yet this teacher actually defends sources that reference the Haeckel chart!

The teacher continues on, using the words "ignorance" and "mislead" a second time. She refers to papers presented by this student that expose Haeckel, present evidence that so-called vestigal organs have purposes and are not evolutionary trash left behind within the gene.

Disciplines like biogeography, paleontology, embroyology and morphology are dominated by evolutionists and yet breakthroughs in these fields are pointing scientists towards life as a function of design. The teacher ignores these evidences and simply pushes through to her conclusion - that "for the sake of his mind" my young friend needed to study evolution more and more until, apparently, he was sufficiently indoctrinated.

This is not education, it is indoctrination. When information that exposes problems with evolution is ignored and labeled as lies then we should not associate such thinking with science.

Carl Linnaeus, the inventor as it were of taxonomy by proposing his Linnaean system of biological classification intended it as a way of understanding the ways of God as well as of the world:

Domain
Kingdom
Phylum
Class
Order
Family
Genus
Species

He proposed an order designed by God for animals, plants and minerals (which was abandoned by science later) by which one could classify and identify the types of created beings. He was not a believer in evolution in any form but understood that there would have been measures taken by God to allow for variation within kind.

I have noted in previous posts that Darwin was simply following up on the work of his grandfather Erasmus Darwin in seeking a way to separate the idea of God from the existence of life and matter. He tried and discarded various means by which notgod could do the work of God, including Lamarkian mechanisms before settling upon natural selection in conjunction with mutation. As it has been said before, that is like expecting a tornado to assemble a working 747 while whipping through a junkyard, including the pilots and crew and fuel and all...only far less likely. Nevertheless, many believe in this idea because it allows them to discard God.

I have often presented evidences of life being designed and the world being flooded without benefit of reference to scripture. I will post more on this interaction between the student and the teacher soon. But I will end this post with the teacher's own words...

"It's sorrowful to me, as a lover of knowledge, to see ignorance preyed upon, with willing submission by the prey, I might add. Investigators of true knowledge, when considering an issue objectively, will know the difference and be far better off because of it."

Ah, she is actually saying that the student she has just given ten out of ten points for this assignment is willingly ignorant! Look carefully at the phrasing.

That above statement, so pompously stated, is from someone who defends the Haeckel chart and will not deign to even consider information that comes from sites not affiliated with Darwinists. Not. Even. Consider. This is science? No, this is indoctrination and SDI.

Staunch Defense of Ignorance

(Preliminary note - My wife, Debbie, has a medical condition. I cannot say what it is exactly right now, just asking for prayer from any of my readers who pray, that she will be healed. Yes, we immediately sought medical care. Thanks!)

Staunch Defense of Ignorance

SDI is an acronym familiar to those of you who are politically and/or historically savvy. The Strategic Defense Initiative was the defense system proposed during the Reagan years and dubbed "Star Wars" by the popular press. Versions of this initially proposed shield from foreign missiles have been put in place and are a thorn in the side of Vladimir Putin to this day. But I am going to be using the term in a different manner in the next two or three posts. I am referring to the Staunch Defense of Ignorance from this sentence forward.

SDI is often experienced when discussing a topic and the discussion moves close to someone's intellectual sacred cow. The refusal to consider any position other than one's own, which is usually whatever the standard and normally accepted position by society in general or a certain segment of society in particular, accompanied by threats or anger or the cutting off of all discussion is typical of SDI. Other symptoms of this syndrome may include being faced with derision, expulsion from a group, exclusion from positions of power or simply being totally ignored as if one does not exist.

One reason this blog exists is to allow free discussion of topics that are controversial. I NEVER remove a comment that disagrees with me, even if it mocks me or in some way makes me look bad. I only remove comments that are foul or pornographic...or a couple of times I have removed a spambot post. So if you don't cuss like a sailor or liberal Hollywood movie actor I'll let you say anything.

I strongly believe that if you have an opinion you should be able to defend it. I have always posted links and often post entire articles on subjects rather than simply rambling on with my own unsupported opinions. Often commenters focus on one aspect of long and complex quotes and challenge me to support that aspect, stretching me. Sometimes they do it to ridiculous lengths and I just politely tell them to find something else to talk about but it is good for both them and for me that we all get a chance to say our piece.

While you may disagree with me concerning my positions on evolution versus creation, you cannot deny that I have posted thousands upon thousands of lines of information from various scientific sources, from biblical sources, from personal research and experience and many pictures illustrating points. I do not argue from ignorance but rather present information and proofs and challenge those who disagree to disprove what I say. Usually they cannnot but rather seek to find what they consider to be my weakest point and work hard to make me defend it. In focusing on these areas they to some extent concede many of my main points as far as I am concerned. I am quite sure they believe that if they can make any of my arguments look shaky they have destroyed my entire point of view. No matter what, dialogue ensues...

There are blogs and websites out there which disagree with me on certain issues that post lots of information. There are sites that agree with me that do the same. That we are free to do this in the USA and most other countries is a blessing. We all get a chance to present and defend our views.

What annoys me is a person who cannot or will not defend what they believe, but simply insist that it be accepted. If you cannot defend your position, how can you believe in it?

I was wondering how I was going to present my next post, which involves the obvious and arguably fanatical indoctrination of public school kids by ideologically slanted teachers. I have some strong evidences to present beginning with the case of one high schooler who challenged his teacher and the reaction he received for his efforts. I promise to make a post on this tomorrow. But I was trying to find the right terminology for the teacher, the right way to think of the method by which the student's questioning and challenging opinions were received and the style of the response.

My wife and I were talking today and it hit me...because I love her open mind and how we can talk about anything openly and I do mean anything. During the first year of our marriage and courtship I challenged her about two of her standard Christian beliefs and she challenged me on one of mine. Neither of us put up SDI but instead we heard each other out and considered the evidences and were challenged to study and talk some more on those three subjects. She changed my mind on one the point she challenged me with, I changed her mind on one and the third is still unresolved but I think I am bringing her over to my side. No one got mad or hurt and neither of us turtled up. It wasn't frightening to have to reconsider and/or defend our belief systems.

Sadly, my wife was once in a Bible study group at a church and a subject came up that turned out to be a sacred cow for the teacher and some of the other ladies in the group. Rather than let my wife present her point of view, the teacher insisted that she not speak up and contacted the pastor to ask him to shush her! If you can imagine, my wife and I decided we had better have a meeting with church leadership on the issue. I had a position in the church that I was going to resign if leadership was going to insist that we not even talk about a subject!

The good news was that the pastor was wiser than that ladie's group teacher and acknowledged that she had a problem. He pointed out that my wife and I were in the minority among church members on this issue but he himself thought it was a difficult portion of scripture that was worthy of consideration and discussion. However, the church had an official position and in order to avoid dissension he preferred that we say what we liked to people one-on-one but not teach it when in leadership positions officially. He asked us to be the grownups, in other words, and feel free to discuss it with any and all church members in individual situations but not teach it in classes because some with a weaker faith might be offended. We both understood. I might think that the Bible teaches that the moderate drinking of alcoholic beverages is perfectly fine, but if I am entertaining a recovering alcoholic I will have no alcohol in the house and certainly neither offer him any or suggest that I drink myself.

My wife left that ladies group, feeling that there was no point trying to communicate with SDI folks. But we had no problem remaining in the church. Some day, as a friend of mine said yesterday, we will get to heaven and no doubt we will all find out we were wrong about SOMETHING if not several things. God being much smarter than me, it can be hard for him to make me understand things perfectly.

But SDI is a sad and pathetic way to face a position that disagrees with yours. It is a way of closing off discussion and hiding yourself from any information other than what you have already accepted. It is commonplace in many communities in the world today. Here are some topics where disagreement with the lemmings is usually faced with SDI:

Global Warming. Those of us who point out the scientific evidences to disprove manmade global warming are called nuts, "deniers" or ignored.

Evolution. The topic of tomorrow's post.

Christianity. People often turtle up or get angry or literally run away rather than discuss the possibility of a Messiah.

But there are many such topics, or topics within these main topics, that are often met with SDI.

Are you often using SDI in your life? Do you run away from information and discussion in any areas? If so, I would say that your behavior is intellectually unhealthy. What good is a brain that doesn't get any use?

When you lift weights, your muscles get stretched and actually damaged, ripped and, as they heal, they get a bit longer and stronger. Thus, bigger muscles that can lift more weight. If you quit lifting weights and quit challenging muscles then your muscles don't grow and, in fact, begin to shrink. As I fight off my infection I am living this out. I have muscles that are not getting as much exercise. Not challenging my body it is becoming weaker and I will have a lot of work to do once I am healthier.

Your mind is like that. If you have your pet set of beliefs that you protect from challenges and stress then you will be protecting your mind from having to actually do anything and it will become weak and lazy. You will have viewpoints that you believe because you choose to believe them rather than because they have been tested in the crucible of discussion and presentation of information.

I would think that politicians and scientists and teachers would be among the people who would be most likely to avoid SDI and yet it is not so. SDI is commonplace in these professions, which is a bad thing for our country and our children. I have found that SDI is actually not uncommon in Christian circles as well. Ignorance. Defending ignorance, fear of ideas, fear of having your viewpoint challenged? Is that you?

Censorship of state?

One of the most frightening things that the Democrats apparently have on their agenda is their planned suppression of freedom of speech. Historically, when an administration begins controlling the media and suppressing dissent then a totalitarian government is coming. David Limbaugh's column does a great job of expressing the concern so here it is:

The most unnerving aspects about the Democrats' sweeping victory Nov. 4 are their intolerance for dissent and their willingness to censor and otherwise suppress their opponents. Consider:

We keep hearing that Sarah Palin's criticism of Obama for "palling around with terrorists" increased death threats against him, which is bogus in the extreme but consistent with the inveterate liberal tactic of chilling conservative speech by saying it incites violence.

Ohio state employee Vanessa Niekamp said she was ordered to run a child-support check on Joe the Plumber, the man who asked Barack Obama an innocuous question about redistributing taxpayer income. Niekamp doesn't remember ever having checked into anyone else without having a legitimate reason to do so, such as discovering that someone recently came into money.

Democratic prosecutors in St. Louis threatened criminal prosecution against candidate Obama's critics. In Pennsylvania, lawyers for Obama wrote intimidating letters to TV and radio stations that aired unflattering ads documenting Obama's anti-gun record. The Obama campaign complained to the Department of Justice about the American Issues Project's ad tying Obama to William Ayers. Obama supporters flooded Chicago radio station WGN with harassing calls during its interviews of conservative writers investigating Obama.

On election night, Philadelphia police arrested a man who dared to wear a McCain-Palin '08 T-shirt at an Obama celebration rally. What's scarier is that the Obama crowd reportedly chanted with joy as cops arrested the man for exercising his freedom of political expression. According to the liberal worldview, arresting someone for disagreeing with you is not censorship, but implying someone is not patriotic is.

Obama has made no secret of his plan to pass "card-check" legislation, which some have described as the most radical revision of labor law since 1935. It would permit unions to eliminate secret ballots -- against the wishes of 78 percent of union members -- which would represent a radical blow to democratic principles.

Democrats fully intend to reinstitute the Fairness Doctrine, a euphemistically named regulation aimed at shutting down conservative talk radio, which Sen. Chuck Schumer has compared to pornography. Remember that conservatives have never advocated government action to suppress or censor the liberal media monopoly, which has existed for decades and still dominates mainstream media today. Their answer was the alternative media.

But what is even more frightening than the sinister schemes of liberal politicians to silence and criminalize political opposition is the apparent eagerness of rank-and-file liberals to go along with them, as witnessed by the many examples I've cited and numerous gleeful e-mails I get taunting me about the imminent re-invocation of the Fairness Doctrine.I believe this arrogant attitude can largely be traced to the top-down indoctrination in our schools, cultural institutions and media that liberalism is morally superior because it is tolerant, diverse, intellectual and enlightened. This view holds that conservative expression doesn't deserve constitutional protection because it is inherently evil. As one liberal academic administrator said in justifying his Draconian action in suppressing a Christian viewpoint, "We cannot tolerate the intolerable."

This self-blinding, superior mindset explains how liberals can accuse conservatives of racism for their legitimate political differences with Barack Obama while demeaning, with racist epithets, Condoleezza Rice or Clarence Thomas. It's how they can mock conservatives for being close-minded while unilaterally declaring the end to the debate on global warming because of a mythical consensus they have decreed. It's how they can demand every vote count and exclude military ballots. It's how they can glamorize Jimmy Carter for gallivanting to foreign countries to supervise "fair elections" and pooh-pooh ACORN's serial voter fraud in their own country. It's how they can threaten the tax-exempt status of evangelical churches for preaching on values, even when the churches don't endorse candidates, but fully support a liberal church's direct electioneering for specific candidates. It's how they can ludicrously depict President Bush as a dictator while romanticizing brute thug tyrants Hugo Chavez and Fidel Castro. It's how they can falsely accuse President Bush of targeting innocent civilians in Iraq when he does everything possible to avoid civilian casualties but demand our withdrawal from South Vietnam, which resulted in the massacre of millions of innocents. It's how they can advocate the banning of DDT in the name of environmental progress but be unconcerned about the untold malaria deaths that resulted. It's how they can oppose the death penalty for the guilty but protect the death penalty for the innocent unborn. It's how they can prevent the teaching of "intelligent design" in schools in the name of science but defend the many documented myths of biological evolution in public-school textbooks, also in the name of science.

If you believe the left is tolerant, open-minded and democratic, you're in for a rude awakening.

Veterans Day

In my family, I can trace military service back to WWI on my father's side (with tales of Civil War service not affixed to a particular person as well) and back to the Revolutionary War on my mother's side. I am a piker, having been drafted rather than enlisted but at least I did serve. Ironically, I gave my WWI helmet and gas mask passed down from my grandfather to my brother when I went off to basic training just in case I wound up in Vietnam and dead. He never gave them back, but he did give me my grandpa's shotgun and the .22 rifle we all used to learn to shoot when we were kids. Fair enough.

Some of my relatives were wounded in battle, I know for sure of no family member that died, although it is likely during the Civil War. But many military families have seen family members killed in war.

I am inordinately proud of my service because I did consider running away to Canada like so many of my peers and I am so very, very glad that I did not. I would have been ashamed of myself for the rest of my life and would have missed the chance to serve my country and be part of something special. Here's to all you draftees who answered the call at a time when your peers and the press were telling you that Vietnam was the wrong war.

To the soldier, the duty is to serve and not to determine whether the field of battle was politically correct. All who serve are honorable, both company clerks and drill sergeants, both fighter pilots and tank mechanics, both artillery redeyes and infantry grunts. Thank you, all!

WHAT IS A VET

Some veterans bear visible signs of their service: a missing limb, a jagged scar, a certain look in the eye. Others may carry the evidence inside them: a pin holding a bone together, a piece of shrapnel in the leg - or perhaps another sort of inner steel: the soul’s ally forged in the refinery of adversity. Except in parades, however, the men and women who have kept America safe wear no badge or emblem. You can’t tell a vet just by looking.

What is a vet?

He is the cop on the beat who spent six months in Saudi Arabia sweating two gallons a day making sure the armored personnel carriers didn’t run out of fuel.

He is the barroom loudmouth, dumber than five wooden planks, whose overgrown frat-boy behavior is outweighed a hundred times in the cosmic scales by four hours of exquisite bravery near the 38th parallel.

She or he—is the nurse who fought against futility and went to sleep sobbing every night for two solid years in Da Nang.

He is the POW who went away one person and came back another—or didn’t come back AT ALL.

He is the Quantico drill instructor who has never seen combat—but has saved countless lives by turning slouchy, no-account rednecks and gang members into Marines, and teaching them to watch each other’s backs.

He is the parade—riding Legionnaire who pins on his ribbons and medals with a prosthetic hand.

He is the career quartermaster who watches the ribbons and medals pass him by.

He is the three anonymous heroes in The Tomb Of The Unknowns, whose presence at the Arlington National Cemetery must forever preserve the memory of all the anonymous heroes whose valor dies unrecognized with them on the battlefield or in the ocean’s sunless deep.

He is the old guy bagging groceries at the supermarket—palsied now and aggravatingly slow—who helped liberate a Nazi death camp and who wishes all day long that his wife were still alive to hold him when the nightmares come.

He is an ordinary and yet an extraordinary human being—a person who offered some of his life’s most vital years in the service of his country, and who sacrificed his ambitions so others would not have to sacrifice theirs.

He is a soldier and a savior and a sword against the darkness, and he is nothing more than the finest, greatest testimony on behalf of the finest, greatest nation ever known.

So remember, each time you see someone who has served our country, just lean over and say Thank You. That’s all most people need, and in most cases it will mean more than any medals they could have been awarded or were awarded.

Two little words that mean a lot, “THANK YOU.”

Remember November 11th is Veterans Day.

“It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who allows the protester to burn the flag.”

Here we go again

I regret to say that the infection in my leg has begun winning again. I have been on bedrest all weekend and adding applications of Tea Tree Oil, which has worked in some case with the combination of nerve damage and MRSA. Those of you who pray please do so, thanks. When it begins to be bad the pain keeps me from sleeping for very long at a time. Thanks!

The War On Terror continues. ACT!

A message from the President & Founder
Brigitte Gabriel

Welcome, and thank you for taking the time to visit American Congress for Truth.

War has been declared on Christians, Jews, non-Muslims and secularists worldwide by Islamic extremists...simply because we are infidels according to their belief. As Islamic fundamentalism spreads its tentacles worldwide, it is crucial for the people of the Western world to understand the danger, know what to expect, and know what to do about it.

Threats and realities of forced conversions to Islam, beheadings, torture and murder are quickly becoming commonplace. They’re rarely mentioned in the news and when they are, it’s with a disclaimer…the word “insurgent” has replaced the truth of “terrorists.”

This Is The New Reality

Political correctness is killing us.

We are in for the fight of our lives.That we have not yet had another terrorist attack in the United States is remarkable, but it will happen. Al Queda keeps its promises.

How do I know this? I was born in Lebanon and raised as a Christian. When the Lebanese Civil War broke out, our family, and our Maronite community came under vicious attack by Islamic extremists. They promised to destroy us, and as you know from the recent war in Lebanon, the country is now nearly Islamic.

I was nearly killed by a mortar. Our home was destroyed. We lived in a bomb shelter for seven years. Most of my childhood friends were killed. That’s how I know.

We must make the connection between individual safety and a strong national defense, increase civic preparation and political responsibility, and train all Americans to become defenders of our community safety and national security.

"All that is required for evil to triumph is for a few good men to do nothing." Edmund Burke

Anguish struck the citizens of the United States of America on 9/11 as a handful of hateful men murdered nearly 3,000 innocent people. A heavy pall of grief covered our nation. Many of us wondered if we'd ever laugh again.

But 9/11 wasn't the only act of terrorism. Bali, London, Madrid, Jerusalem...the list goes on and on. Yet the West does not fully realize the bloodthirsty intentions of the menace of fundamental Islam. This enemy -- is relentless. It is determined.

Why Does Our Struggle Matter? It Matters Because...

If we don't win the war against Islamofascism other issues won't matter at all. We won't have an economy to worry about. We won't have equal rights for all. We won't have our cherished freedom. And we will live under Sharia Law.

We Must Win This War

The enemy loves death -- far more than we love life.

The enemy uses children as human bombs, mothers as suicide bombers, men driven by the glory of death and the promise of eternal sexual bliss in heaven...and martyrdom on earth. This is the enemy reality: murder and death of "infidels" by any means for the glory of Allah.

The pain-rich attack of 9/11 changed most Americans lives forever, but it struck an especially sensitive chord with me. It reminded me that the entire world is under brutal threat and physical attack by the same radical Islamic ideology that massacred “infidels” in Lebanon during the Lebanese Civil War.

The American Congress for Truth (ACT) was formed in June 2002 to clear away the fog of the brutal attack of September 11, 2001. Our purpose is to preserve our cherished values and freedoms.

Our Members Include:

Jews, Arabs, Christians, and non-Muslims from all backgrounds both secular and religious, liberals and conservatives. These good people have put their differences aside to combat both anti-American and anti-Israel propaganda masquerading as anti-Imperialism and anti-Zionism:

• in the Western media

• among the intellectual elite

• on American college campuses

• in churches, synagogues and other places of worship

• in business groups and civic meetings

• wherever it exists

As America stood up against and defeated communism--now it is time to stand up and stare down the evil of religious bigotry and intolerance. So many times in history, citizens have done nothing...and evil prevailed.

"Evil unchecked grows. Evil tolerated poisons the whole system." Jawaharlal Nehru

We can see from history that this is true. We can see that today this is true.

Join Us. Get Involved!

Together we can save our country and our freedom. You are the heroes who make our work possible.I especially thank you for helping me protect the country that has blessed me so much.

America, the dream that became my address.

Nonie Darwish is a sweet, down-to-earth woman whose conscience compelled her to speak out.

She was born in Egypt but spent her early childhood in the Gaza Strip. Her father served as head of Egyptian intelligence in Gaza. He was charged with establishing and directing the Palestinian fedayun (i.e. suicide troops trained, equipped, and paid by Egyptian intelligence operatives) that infiltrated Israel. Members of the fedayun were guilty of killing no fewer than 400 Israelis and injuring many more. Israel, as a result, targeted Nonie's father. She described a night during which Israeli commandos raided her home only to find her mother, five children, and two maids. Because her father was not home at the time, the Israeli commandos left without incident. In fact, they did not so much as wake her. This contradicted the endless tales she had heard of how much Israeli soldiers reveled in torturing and killing defenseless Palestinian woman and children. Nonie stated how different the outcome would have been had armed Palestinians raided a home occupied by Israeli women and children. Israeli commandos did eventually assassinate her father, but she displayed no signs of animosity towards Israel for it. Nonie remembered her father as a man who did not preach hatred for Israel or for Jews. Rather, he was a respected and dedicated military man whose fate was the consequence of his occupation.

Nonie returned to Egypt, where she was always exposed to Islamic indoctrination. In 1978, Nonie left her large family behind for the promising shores of the United States. She took pride in becoming an American citizen and "fell out of religion." Even in the U.S., imams ordered Muslim congregates not to integrate. Their divine duty, after all, was to Islamize America. Nonie felt that mosques everywhere were promoting intolerance and hate rather than self-reflective wisdom. She did not wish to expose herself or her children to such destructive values.

While Nonie was long conscious of the frightening aspects of Islam, she fully recognized the danger it posed to the world after 9/11. The day before she had just returned home from a visit to Egypt where Nonie realized how, over the years, ideologically, far apart she had drifted from her family. They, like most Egyptians and Arabs, expressed unwarranted resentment towards Israel and Jews for the many ills in their lives and for the failings of their country. After the terrorist strikes on 9/11, Nonie called numerous relatives and Arab acquaintances to make sense of the calamity. She was met with accusations leveled at Israel, Jews, and the U.S. for concocting a plot to discredit Muslims, who surely could not be to blame. These exchanges confirmed to Nonie that Islam was unable and unwilling to accept criticism or fault of any kind, even when deserved. She was flabbergasted.

Nonie made the decision to speak out against the radicalism of Islam. Prior to 9/11, she had toyed with the idea of voicing her discontent but was reluctant to deal with the possible ramifications of doing so. Nonie wrote an article for a modest publication in which she denounced the evils of the culture of Islam. The article was widely circulated via the Internet, and Nonie was unexpectedly thrust into the center of attention. This soft-spoken woman was pressed to speak to audiences. Nonie recalled an early speaking engagement attended by two female survivors of the Holocaust. The two elderly women sitting in the front row cried knowingly as she spoke. Nonie cried as well. She wondered how these frail survivors of incalculable horror could be perceived as a threat to Islam. Rather, they needed to be cherished and respected.

Nonie has since allied herself with StandWithUs

www.StandWithUs.org

On behalf of the organization, she speaks frequently, especially at universities, in a continuing effort to educate a public often made ignorant by political correctness. Nonie tries to shed light on the actual circumstances of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and to discredit the typically bigoted accounts that garner so much attention. Her reservations about speaking have lessened considerably. She is comforted by the freedoms and protections that the United States provides. Israelis, in her estimation, are the brave ones. Nonie has also formed the Arabs for Israel organization -- http://www.http://www.arabsforisrael.com/

During a visit to Gaza long ago, Nonie recounted how her brother had required immediate medical attention. Several Palestinians, despite their hatred for Israel, urged Nonie to take her brother to an Israeli medical facility instead of an Egyptian one if she wanted him to survive. Nonie's brother received impeccable treatment at the Haddasah Hospital in Jerusalem. The caring Israeli medical staff yet again defied every malicious account offered by her Muslim brethren. She understood too that Muslims would sooner die than admit their subconscious respect for Israeli accomplishment, skill, and common decency.

Nonie asserts that almost every Muslim family possesses or knows a shahid -- a martyr. Her family is no exception. Her own grandfather was a shahid. This sort of suicidal behavior epitomizes Islam's unwillingness to face reality. Rather than look inward to rectify what ails Islam, Muslims habitually shirk deserved criticism and personal responsibility by placing blame where it does not belong. Muslims have thus made Israel, Jews, and the United States their eternal scapegoat.

Nonie believes that the free world can help Muslims realize the error of their ways. Westerners must first abandon political correctness. Young Arab males, for instance, should be profiled at airports. Free world nations must be honest with Muslims and must ceaselessly press them to accept responsibility for each and every unspeakable act committed in the name of Allah. To that end, free people must also exhibit courage. We cannot succumb to the tactics of intimidation, such as terrorism, employed by Muslims to advance their oppressive, self-serving agendas. Muslims perceive appeasement as weakness and defeatism, which only emboldens them to behave more aggressively. If we do not display strength in our convictions or protect our freedoms, mosques will never cease to poison minds with virulent hatred instead of filling them with self-worth and wisdom. The future of the world lies in the balance.

She believes Israel and the United States must take some other practical steps as well. Israel might consider building higher fences in preparation for the Arab civil wars that are threatening to explode around her. A consequence of advancing hatred and unaccountability for so long is that Muslims are increasingly turning on one another. The United States must tighten its immigration policy. Countless indoctrinated Muslims sneak into or reside within the U.S. They require very little motivation to terrorize the country.

She is a sincere and convincing speaker. Her appearance on CNN September 12, 2006 in an interview conducted by Glenn Beck can be seen at

http://www.terrorfreeoil.org/videos/ND091206.php

Her book Now They Call Me Infidel: Why I Renounced Jihad for America, Israel, and the War on Terror (Hardcover) is -- as the cover rightly states -- "Nonie Darwish's personal story of tragedy and redemption, as well as a scholarly analysis of Middle-Eastern culture. Every Western statesman, indeed every European and American citizen will benefit from Ms. Darwish's unique insights into the danger to Western civilization posed by Radical Islam and sustained by deep-rooted Arab/Muslim cultural dynamics."

Nonie Darwish may have lost her Muslim culture, but she has gained American freedom, with which she tries to make a positive impact in a world increasingly consumed with gloom. Through her efforts, however, hopefully one day Nonie can discover pride in an evolved and tolerant Islam.

Now what?

"...I recognized that I held those two views of America (politics, government, corporations, the military). One was of a state where everything was magically wrong and must be immediately corrected at any cost; and the other—the world in which I actually functioned day to day—was made up of people, most of whom were reasonably trying to maximize their comfort by getting along with each other (in the workplace, the marketplace, the jury room, on the freeway, even at the school-board meeting).

And I realized that the time had come for me to avow my participation in that America in which I chose to live, and that that country was not a schoolroom teaching values, but a marketplace.

"Aha," you will say, and you are right. I began reading not only the economics of Thomas Sowell (our greatest contemporary philosopher) but Milton Friedman, Paul Johnson, and Shelby Steele, and a host of conservative writers, and found that I agreed with them: a free-market understanding of the world meshes more perfectly with my experience than that idealistic vision I called liberalism." - David Mamet, writing in the 11/03/08 Village Voice.

~

"History looms large in the conservative mind. Conservatives learn from history, which is a repository of both good and evil. Liberals, seeing only the evil, view the past with scorn -- as a record of mistakes, failures, and injustices. Liberals wish to replace the ugly, shameful past with a new regime of justice and love. (Think of the well-meaning but clueless hippies.) This is of course hubris, and it is dangerous. Please don't misunderstand: I'm glad that there are liberals. Young people should be liberal. Youth is a time of idealism, exploration, hope, and searching. These traits need to be cultivated if the emerging adult is to be an integrated whole rather than a personal fragment.

Fortunately, most young people survive the turbulence and naiveté of adolescence and gain the experience and judgment necessary to become proper conservatives. They begin to use their brains after relying for so long on their hearts. Because the natural movement is from liberalism to conservatism, I hold out hope for the salvation of my middle-aged but childish liberal friends. Long live conservatism!" - Keith Burgess-Jackson, J.D., Ph.D.

The most radical revolutionary will become a conservative the day after the revolution.—Hannah Arendt

“Everybody knows - but no one wants to say - that the Democratic Party has become the party of special interest bigots and racial dividers. It runs the one-party state that controls public services in every major inner city, including the corrupt and failing school systems in which half the students - mainly African American and Hispanic - are denied a shot at the American dream.” - David Horowitz

So is it Romney or Jindal in 2012?

I really think Jindal is the guy, if he wants to go for it. He has been spectacularly successful. Even those of you with all-blue blood must concede that the Democratic governor that preceded him screwed up the Katrina situation and made all sorts of slow and non-decisions. Jindal came in and has been getting things accomplished. The completely different response to a threat to New Orleans this year was largely Jindal's doing. He is a man of color, he is young, and he is building a nice resume. At the very least he would make a nice VP candidate alongside Romney.

A liberal is a conservative who's been arrested. A conservative is a liberal who's been mugged.- unknown

I am afraid Obama will actually do a lot of the things with the economy and energy that he suggested he would do, which would badly hurt average Americans, which would wind up with him getting tossed out in 2012. Good for Republicans but bad for America. But if he changes his plans dramatically and begins doing what needs to be done, it will be good for America and also lead to his re-election. He has always been radically left in his voting record but was he simply being pragmatic to get the support of the richest side of his base? We really don't know. But I can point to some things to watch for:

The Fairness Doctrine is a threat to free speech, requiring radio stations to play as many liberal talk shows as they do conservative talk shows. Who decides what is liberal and what is conservative? How does the government have the right to stifle free speech? Air America went bankrupt because people don't want to listen to the vast majority of liberal talk radio. If Obama pushes for this, he is after our Constitutional right to free speech and I hope you all fight it with me. If not, it shows that he actually learned something in law school and isn't a puppet for the radical left.

"Not to be a socialist at twenty is proof of want of heart; to be one at thirty is proof of want of head." - Georges Clemenceau

The Freedom of Choice act. Makes abortions more easily obtained and more likely. Really helps pedophiles abuse young girls and then force them to abort their babies with no consequences. It is a radical bill. Obama, if he is for this, I am not sure I have the words. But he really did vote against a bill that would allow doctors and nurses to legally treat living babies who had survived abortions rather than throw them out like trash.

Cap and Trade bills. All legislation that fines plants for greenhouse gas emissions are ludicrous and kill the economy. You know who emits the most greenhouse gases? 1) the ocean. 2) trees 3) animals like cows. It makes as much sense to bankrupt the coal industry for their CO2 emissions as it does to outlaw trees and cows and the ocean. Right now we need more nuclear plants and more drilling for natural gas and oil in our own country. Most of our resources off-shore can be accessed by side-sipping technologies, so if we don't get going the Chinese are going to start taking them from us anyway.

The military. Will Obama listen to the most successful military commander since George Patton and finish the job in Iraq and use surge tactics in Afghanistan? Or will he kowtow to the loonies who want us to withdraw our military from foreign soil? Isolationism either militarily or commercially is a proven loser. What will Obama do?

“Terrorists and totalitarian radicals are lionized as fighters for social justice. Israelis and Americans are condemned as Nazis."” - David Horowitz

President Obama can do great good or great harm. Once he is in office, he is my President, too. I hope that he feels the same way and acts upon it. We can only wait and see for now.

PS - Most of the negative ads against Obama and countless other candidates on both sides of the aisle were based in truth. Sometimes the truth hurts. But two very nasty ones stand out, both in Senatorial races.

1) Republican Elizabeth Dole, of all people, ran an ad accusing her opponent of being Godless! Her opponent is or at least was a Sunday School teacher. Doleful! She deserved to get hammered and she did! I think this was the worst dirty trick ad I have seen in this entire campaign and it made me ashamed of Liddy Dole, who I once thought was one of the good guys. No excuse for this. Sickening!

2) Democrat Al Franken attacked Norm Coleman's wife and harmed her job status with no proof of his allegations. Too bad Al, looks like you lost. Of course, you are demanding a recount at taxpayer expense because it was a close race. But it appears, Al, that the joke is on you! Alas, the people of Minnesota will get another big bill to pay just because you won't accept the defeat. I think that is what is known as adding insult to injury?

“It is important for conservatives to make distinctions between those on the Left who were (and are) traitors or self-conceived enemies of the United States, and those who were (and are) the fellow-travelers of enemies of the United States, and those who are neither traitors, nor enemies, nor friends and protectors of enemies, but are American patriots who disagree with conservatives over tactical and policy issues.” - David Horowitz

May all those who disagree with me fall into the second category. May all those who fall into the first category be exposed. God Bless America!

Time to be thankful

Time to be thankful. The election is over and I did my best to persuade people. I voted and got other people out there voting. I am thankful for our right to vote for the candidates we believe deserve our votes. I am thankful for every American who cared enough to exercise that right. So long as we are free and adhere to our Constitution we are a great country.

It's not a game, so it wasn't like I was rooting for the Republican team. I was rooting for conservative ideals.

Barack Obama surprised Hilary Clinton with an election plan that left her behind before she knew what hit her. He then managed to make the race a contest between himself and a third term for George Bush. His strategy worked wonderfully well. Of course, he had four dollars for every one that John McCain had to spend. He will have a few messy donation problems to clean up. But no one doubts who won the election.

For those of you who voted for Barack Obama, I want to say that I sincerely hope my dire predictions of what he will do are untrue. For those who voted, along with me, for John McCain, well, we hope the same thing. Country first! Once Barack Obama takes office he becomes my President, too.

It was a great victory in one way, that a man of color will fill the Presidency. When I was a young boy that seemed like a very far off pipedream. I am not in favor of the man, but I am in favor of the concept that the United States has come far enough to run a ticket with a black man on one side and a woman on the other. I am a white adult male and I am all for adult white males, but the Presidency should not be exclusively for that one gender and color. In this, Barack's victory is a good thing.

The election has also given the Democratic Party a big stage. The majority of Americans are moderate and they tend to lean a little conservative. But the savvy campaign run by Obama and fears about the economy have given him and his party a chance to show us what Hope really is.

Will we see fewer earmarks and a more ethical congress?

Will we see a reduction in partisanship?

Will we find that Obama's extreme friends of the past were simply a means to an end and that he will actually be, as he said, someone who brings the country together?

Or will we see an attempt to end the secret ballot for unions, an attack on free speech known as the "Fairness Doctrine" and new legislation to make abortions more horrific and common than ever?

Will we see a wise energy policy? Will we see policies in place that reward companies that provide jobs?

Or will we see our resources squandered and our coal industry bankrupted? Will we see jobs flee from being overburdened by taxes and regulation?

I am waiting, Barack Obama. You won the day. Now comes the hard part. You have to actually do the job.

Allow me to say that all of us who pray need to pray for Barack Obama. He needs wisdom and guidance and strength. He will be our President.

If you are depressed over the election, you can do something to help the troops. You will feel a little better by doing something worthwhile.

Blogging the 2008 vote

This morning at 5:45 AM me, my wife and two of my three voting aged offspring jumped in the Subaru and went down to vote. We live in a small town, but wanted to make sure we got in and got our vote counted early. We were not alone.

The line stretched out the door down the sidewalk and well into the parking lot of the American Legion building where our precinct voting takes place. We knew Mark, the guy right ahead of us in line and also Chris, who was just ahead of him. So the conversation was more than just among ourselves.

Indiana, being an intelligent state, requires a photo ID for a voter to vote. (The License bureau provides them even if you do not want or need a drivers license). We filed past poll workers with lists who checked to be sure we had our ID's and that our names were on the registration lists. Then inside were the polling books, where the spot for each of us to sign was next to our names. Not much chance of voter fraud with that system!

We perhaps take the secret ballot for granted. In England, it was a long fight to win that right from the Parliament. Inside the American Legion building were no signs supporting any candidates or parties and none allowed. There was no electioneering. No one even discussed for whom they were voting. We talked about the issues of the election and traffic to Chicago and road construction and a host of other things instead.

Once we reached the inner portion of the voting area, we were split up into two precinct voting groups (precincts 2 and 5 vote at our location). For each group there were three voting machines and rows of chairs set up. Everyone sat down in the order they had arrived and, as one got up to vote, all the rest would get up and scoot over. There were four rows of chairs but before we got to vote those chairs were all filled up and there was another line formed inside the building.

I've voted in the same precinct since the 80's and know a couple of the voting officials. One told me how exciting it was for them to have 1,000 new registered voters for this election in two precincts. Since the last census of the town listed us as less than 10,000 people that was interesting indeed. This town has been booming and I know my subdivision, planned for 383 homes when done, was less than half-completed when we had our house built and now it is completed. Still, 1,000 new voters in just two precincts should have been overwhelming but the polling place ran smoothly.

Despite the long line at the start, we were out the door in 47 minutes from the time they began ushering us inside. My other son drove his car to join us, realized he didn't have time to vote before work and drove off. He'll have to come back after 5:30 and it will be interesting to find out what the line is like at that time.

Freedom of speech and the secret ballot are two of the big weapons we have against totalitarianism. No matter who is in power, remember to fight like mad against any attempt to take away even one aspect of those two important rights.

PS - One official noted that she was very glad not to be in Indianapolis, where even by the latest population estimates the registered voters are 105% of the population, children included! She also mentioned that her cohorts in the Gary area reported massive numbers of new registrants in recent days, many of which had already been tossed out as fakes, but the poll workers there were concerned about confrontations with people who had invalid or fake IDs or no IDs at all. That is one reason they screened IDs outside at our location, to make sure voters had their stuff together before even entering the building.

Also, I noticed a poll watcher posted there, but he did not come in but rather sat in his vehicle and just watched the people lining up and going out. I smiled at him when I left and he smiled back. I wondered why he didn't go inside. Perhaps his only task was to take a count of the people for the day?

All week long, people had been going to early polling places and standing in line for five and six and seven hours or longer. Then comes election day and I am sure those lines will be shorter even in the biggest districts. Again I wondered, outside of work duties, why someone would spend half the day waiting to vote early when they could simple come early in the morning and get it done in an hour or maybe less?

Meanwhile, in other states voter intimidation, multiple voting, illegal Dem dirty tricks and other completely stereotypical Chicago Machine political tactics are taking place and being recorded
by Hyscience!

Jerrold Nadler, New York's Democratic 8th district rep, admits that Obama lacks political courage! Bad news if he gets into the White House...

In the voting madness, I forgot the 91st anniversary of the Balfour Declaration, thanks to Angel for reminding us!

I think Big Lizards makes a great point in this post:

Perhaps the “H” stands for hubris

Hatched by Dave Ross

Since we can assume that when Barack Obama takes the oath of office that, unlike every other president in history he will omit his middle name since it is a no-no to bring up that it is “Hussein.”

Perhaps he may substitute “Hubris.” All these speeches that “the one” gives about how the sea levels will fall and that change will begin as soon as he takes office, Obama’s arrogance is not only getting pretty hard to take, it’s also setting him up for a potential fall from a great height should things not work out quite as he planned.

I recall with amusement the last politician who was that overweeningly self-confident about how much the universe was going to change when he took charge.

“In a Spitzer administration, the road to responsive and responsible government will begin on Day One.” That was former New York Governor Elliott Spitzer on the day of his election. In less than a year, his poll numbers were in the toilet, and that was BEFORE the news that he was carrying on with a high-priced hooker.

I’m not saying that Obama is cavorting with loose women. Far from it. But I think that a lot of his radical past is being swept under the rug by the media that is determined to have a Democratic president and no ifs ands or buts, by God! So we might see some honest reporting once they have accomplished their task.

And what happened to Jimmy Carter, who began to take his initials a little too seriously, could happen to Obama. Someone who is so inexperienced yet so supremely self-confident—someone who has ALWAYS gotten his way in the past and has rarely experienced a setback, is cruising for a comeuppance.

At last, I totally understand Barack Obama!

Barack Obama, Fabian Socialist

By Jerry Bowyer — 11/04/2008

Barack Obama is a Fabian socialist. I should know; I was raised by one. My Grandfather worked as a union machinist for Ingersoll Rand during the day. In the evenings he tended bar and read books. After his funeral, I went back home and started working my way through his library, starting with T.W. Arnold’s The Folklore of Capitalism. This was my introduction to the Fabian socialists.

Fabians believed in gradual nationalization of the economy through manipulation of the democratic process. Breaking away from the violent revolutionary socialists of their day, they thought that the only real way to effect “fundamental change” and “social justice” was through a mass movement of the working classes presided over by intellectual and cultural elites. Before TV it was stage plays, written by George Bernard Shaw and thousands of inferior “realist” playwrights dedicated to social change. John Cusack’s character in Woody Allen’s “Bullets Over Broadway” captures the movement rather well.

Arnold taught me to question everyone–my president, my priest and my parents. Well, almost everyone. I wasn’t supposed to question the Fabian intellectuals themselves. That’s the Fabian MO, relentless cultural and journalistic attacks on everything that is, and then a hard pitch for the hope of what might be.

That’s Obama’s world.

He’s telling the truth when he says that he doesn’t agree with Bill Ayers’ violent bombing tactics, but it’s a tactical disagreement. Why use dynamite when mass media and community organizing work so much better? Who needs Molotov when you’ve got Saul Alinski?

So here is the playbook: The left will identify, freeze, personalize and polarize an industry, probably health care. It will attempt to nationalize one-fifth of the US economy through legislative action. They will focus, as Lenin did, on the “commanding heights” of the economy, not the little guy.

As Obama said, “the smallest” businesses will be exempt from fines for not “doing the right thing” in offering employer-based health care coverage. Health will not be nationalized in one fell swoop; they have been studying the failures of Hillary Care. Instead, a parallel system will be created, funded by surcharges on business payroll, which will be superior to many private plans.
The old system will be forced to subsidize the new system and there will be a gradual shift from the former to the latter. The only coercion will be the fines, not the participation. A middle-class entitlement will have been created.

It may not be health care first; it might be energy, though I suspect that energy will be nationalized much more gradually. The offshore drilling ban that was allowed to lapse legislatively will be reinstated through executive means. It may be an executive order, but might just as well be a permit reviewing system that theoretically allows drilling but with endless levels of objection and appeal from anti-growth groups. Wind and solar, on the other hand, will have no permitting problems at all, and a heavy taxpayer subsidy at their backs.

The banking system has already been partially nationalized. Bush and Paulson intend for their share purchases to be only non-voting preferred shares, but the law does not specify that. How hard will it be for Obama, new holder of $700 billion in bank equity, to demand “accountability” and a “voice” for the taxpayers?

The capital markets are not freezing up now, mostly because of what has happened, although community organizers’ multidecade push for affirmative-action mortgages has done enormous harm to the credit system. Markets are forward looking.

A quick review of the socialist takeovers in Venezuela in 1999, Spain in 2004 and Italy in 2006 show the same pattern—equity markets do most of their plummeting before the Chavez’s of the world take power. Investors anticipate the policy shift in advance; that’s their job.

It’s not just equity markets, though; debt markets do the same thing. Everywhere I turn I hear complaints about bankers “hoarding” capital. “Hoarding” is a word we’ve heard often from violent socialists like Lenin and Mao. We also hear it from the democratic left as we did during the 1930s in America. The banks, we’re told, are greedy and miserly, holding onto capital that should be deployed into the marketplace.

Well, which is it, miserly or greedy? They’re not the same thing. Banks make money borrowing low and lending high. In fact, they can borrow very, very low right now, as they could during the Great Depression.

So why don’t they lend? Because socialism is a very unkind environment for lenders. Some of the most powerful members of Congress are speaking openly about repudiating mortgage covenants. Local officials have already done so by simply refusing to foreclose on highly delinquent borrowers. Then, there’s the oldest form of debt repudiation, inflation. Even if you get your money back, it will not be worth anything. Who would want to lend in an environment like this?

Will Obama’s be the strong-man socialism of a Chavez, or the soft socialism that Clement Atlee used to defeat Churchill after WWII? I don’t know, but I suspect something kind of in between. Despite right-wing predictions we won’t see Rush shut down by Fairness Doctrine fascists. We won’t see Baptist ministers hauled off in handcuffs for anti-sodomy sermons. It will more likely be a matter of paperwork. Strong worded letters from powerful lawyers in and out of government to program directors and general mangers of radio stations. Ominous references to license renewal.

The psychic propaganda assault will be powerful. The cyber-brown-shirts will spew hate, the union guys will flood talk shows with switchboard-collapsing swarms of complaint calls aimed at those hosts who “go beyond the pale” in their criticisms of Obama. In concert with pop culture outlets like The Daily Show and SNL, Obama will use his podium to humiliate and demonize those of us who don’t want to come together and heal the planet.

You’ve heard of the bully pulpit, right? Well, then get ready, because you’re about to see the bully part.

Obama to bankrupt coal, is intellectually and morally bankrupt himself! News at eleven!

Barack Obama is a liar or a fool, or both. I dare you to watch this video and deny it! Don't be afraid, it is only information, it cannot hurt you...unless you have already voted for him and it has made you sick!

Barack Obama will bankrupt this nation, beginning with the Coal industry:

Excerpt:

Imagine if John McCain had whispered somewhere that he was willing to bankrupt a major industry? Would this declaration not immediately be front page news? Well, Barack Obama actually flat out told the San Francisco Chronicle (SF Gate) that he was willing to see the coal industry go bankrupt in a January 17, 2008 interview. The result? Nothing. This audio interview has been hidden from the public...until now. Here is the transcript of Obama's statement about bankrupting the coal industry (emphasis mine):

"Let me sort of describe my overall policy.

What I've said is that we would put a cap and trade system in place that is as aggressive, if not more aggressive, than anybody else's out there.

I was the first to call for a 100% auction on the cap and trade system, which means that every unit of carbon or greenhouse gases emitted would be charged to the polluter. That will create a market in which whatever technologies are out there that are being presented, whatever power plants that are being built, that they would have to meet the rigors of that market and the ratcheted down caps that are being placed, imposed every year.

So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can; it's just that it will bankrupt them because they're going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that's being emitted."

Watch the video. These are the very words of Barack Obama.

The Ohio Coal Association did. They can see how Obama will ruin the coal industry and stick a stilleto into the gut of our economy in the process.

Excerpt: "Senator Obama has revealed himself to be nothing more than a short- sighted, inexperienced politician willing to say anything to get a vote. But today, the nation's coal industry and those who support it have a better understanding of his true mission, to 'bankrupt' our industry, put tens of thousands out of work and cause unprecedented increases in electricity prices.

"In addition to providing an affordable, reliable source of low-cost electricity, domestic coal holds the key to our nation's long-term energy security - a goal that cannot be overlooked during this time of international instability and economic uncertainty.

"Few policy areas are more important to our economic future than energy issues. As voters head to the polls tomorrow, it is essential they remember that access to reliable, affordable, domestic energy supplies is essential to economic growth and stability."

Wakepedia calls an Obama win a "perfect storm." Kind of like going all Hurricane Katrina all over the economy!

So let's get this straight:

1) Barack Obama intends to raise taxes and redistribute the paychecks of those who pay income taxes to those who do not. This will cause some companies to relocate, some to downsize and some to fail - all causing jobs to be lost. No way does anyone with an ounce of sense raise taxes in a time of economic uncertainty.

2) Barack Obama intends to ignore the vast natural gas and oil resources we could tap in this country to throw money at alternative sources not yet developed, thus causing the prices to rise again and increasing our dependence on foreign powers.

3) Barack Obama intends to make regulations on nuclear energy plants so complex and difficult that they cannot be built.

4) Barack Obama intends to bankrupt the coal industry and kill off another source of energy for the American people.

5) Barack's cap-and-trade policies will cause more companies to flee the USA, if the increased taxes were not enough, taking even more jobs with them. His policies are so radical that they are truly inconceivable! He is talking about deliberately destroying the remainder of our manufacturing base and making energy so expensive that most families will be hard pressed to pay their heating and electric bills, let alone drive a car!

6) Barack Obama's values life so little that he believes babies born alive despite an attempt to abort them should still be killed off.

7) Barack Obama believes that the US Constitution is flawed and requires judges who will consider other issues besides the evidences and letter of the law in issuing opinions and verdicts. He also wants them to consider race and class and gender and religion!

8) Barack Obama cannot be trusted to tell the truth, since he changes his position to fit the audience. Therefore we cannot say if he will tax people and businesses making over 250 thousand dollars or over 42 thousand dollars or somewhere in between. How can anyone believe a single word he has ever said?

9) At least an Obama victory would make our sworn enemies happy.

I felt foolish in 1976 for voting for a spineless Jimmy Carter who had more trouble making a decision than he did paddling away in fear from a dangerous attack rabbit! If you vote for Barack Obama, foolish is the least of what you will feel like later on. Abused? Betrayed? It won't be good.

Today I received my autographed copy of Michael Yon's book, Moment of Truth in Iraq.
It details the truth about what has and is happening over there. How our troops there are the new "greatest generation" in not only casting out the bad guys but building roads and schools and giving the people, especially the children, real hope. The Surge has worked in Iraq. McCain was completely right and Obama was completely wrong. Lather, rinse and repeat.

God bless and help our country!!!!! Vote for the guy who has risked his life and limb and sacrificed his sweat, blood and tears for you. Vote for the guy who will work to make government smaller rather than larger and seek to make energy more plentiful and available rather than scarce. Vote for a man who loves life and has fought to defend it! John McCain!

(See? I'm not just clinging to my guns and religion!)

My Last Democrat

Jimmy Carter was the last Democratic candidate for President for which I voted. I thought that, as a former commander and a guy with executive experience, he would be a good leader for the country. He turned out to be a pacifist with the worst foreign policy decisions imaginable, not even able to stand up to an attack rabbit, let alone the Soviet Union or Iran!

This year I am voting for John McCain! So will our troops! It is a matter of trust.

My family and I will be in line at six AM to vote for John McCain.

My First Democrat

(Image courtesy of Zombietime) Sounds like the job description for "community organizer."

There is the first Democratic candidate I supported for President, and then there is the first one I voted for and they are two different guys. I wasn't old enough to vote in 1968, when I supported a Democratic candidate for the first time. This narrative will be about the first Democrat and tomorrow I will address the second one.

I was eight years old in the year JFK beat Nixon. My parents let me watch part of a debate and I liked Kennedy because he looked younger. Nope, wasn't too politically savvy back then... About as savvy as a lot of Obama supporters now, who are voting for him because of his appearance, unfortunately.

When I was in third grade my dad gave me my first novel written for adults (no, not X-rated!), The Wreck of the Mary Deare by Hammond Innes. I couldn't put it down and became an avid reader. In fourth grade the father of one of my best friends gave me a book by Ayn Rand to read and I read everything I could find written by her. I remember reading The City Boy by Herman Wouk and being moved by the emotions and drives and motives of the main character. I also remember following the War in Vietnam on the news, in the papers and even in our Weekly Readers. *

In 1964 I went door-to-door handing out flyers for Barry Goldwater and asking adults to vote for him. I realize now they probably thought my parents had put me up to it. In actuality I was sure Goldwater would win the War in Vietnam before I even entered high school but Lyndon Johnson would surely screw it up. Boy, did he ever!

In 1968 I was a big supporter of Bobby Kennedy, campaigning for him in our mock school primary and passing out literature door-to-door, this time as a Sophomore. People believed I meant it this time around, I am sure! He was the man for the job in my mind.

Understand that Joe Kennedy, Sr. was a crook. He made lots of money during Prohibition as a bootlegger and therefore necessarily had gang ties of various kinds. He was an anti-Semite and a fascist and certainly a hater of communism and a believer in the coming end of democracy. His radical beliefs cost him a position in the Roosevelt administration but didn't end his ambitions. He planned on being a kingmaker and that his oldest son, Joe Jr., would be President. Joe was sadly taken in battle during WWII. John then became the one his father would push towards power.

"Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country." John F Kennedy wasn't around long enough to accomplish what he wanted to do. Strong on national defense and service to the nation and also mankind, he is a fascinating character. Of course, his continual adulteries are a sign that all was not what it seemed to be within JFK. Nevertheless, it is a terrible tragedy that he was assassinated. There are three significant reasons why:

1) He was a natural leader. His father and political cronies had propelled him into office on the strength of better makeup on national TV and the Daley Machine getting the dead vote out in big numbers in Chicago. He was surrounded by a host of Eastern elitist advisors and cabinet members. He was saddled with a Vice President needed to bring in votes from Dixiecrats and the Southwest. But he truly only trusted his brother Bobby and Bobby was no elitist. I think John Fitzgerald Kennedy had a chance to become a great President and that chance was taken away from us.

2) He was replaced by a buffoon of the grossest kind, a back-room politics guy who was not particularly intelligent nor wise. Lyndon Baines Johnson knew how to persuade people to make tit-for-tat deals and he knew how to play all the political games. But he may have been the dumbest and most inappropriate President ever! He managed to finagle a Silver Star for a 13 minute plane ride during WWII while otherwise avoiding any action at all. He was famous for making his hounds howl by lifting them up by the ears. He launched a Great Society program that wound up making government-supported serfs out of the inner-city poor and spent government money like a drunken sailor.

3) JFK had told his associates to plan to get uninvolved in Vietnam. President Eisenhower had sent advisors over in support of the French and JFK had upped the ante in terms of men and materials but saw that Indochina had been a pawn in struggles with China and neighboring states for centuries and didn't believe his alliances with the French extended far enough to drag the country into another war so soon after the end of the Korean War. He believed that the Democratic Party's angst over "losing China" was misplaced and that there were other and bigger fish to fry. But JFK's top advisors were often able to play LBJ like a fiddle. Therefore LBJ fiddled around with Vietnam and turned it into a meat grinder. Read The Best and Brightest by David Halberstam sometime from the perspective of 2008.

I believed that Robert Kennedy was strong enough mentally, intellectually and emotionally to handle the job of President. I was not in favor of Nelson Rockefeller, was disgusted with George Wallace as a racist, figured Ronald Reagan could never win because he was a Hollywood actor and just disliked Richard Nixon as someone who just didn't ring true to me. I thought of him as a used-car salesman.

Bobby Kennedy had an uphill fight to beat Hubert Humphrey, because the Daley Machine and mainline Democratic bosses wanted HHH to win. But Kennedy had a surge in the primaries and his victory in California could well have carried him to a win at the convention over the liberal Gene McCarthy and Daley choice Humphrey. Kennedy confided that he had assurances from Daley that the Machine would support him over Humphrey if he came into town with the momentum in a convention split between Humphrey and McCarthy factions.

Then Sirhan Sirhan shot Robert Kennedy and all hopes I had for the 1968 race were to die with him. I didn't believe in any of the other candidates.

~~~~~~~
I don't label Barack Obama as a Muslim just because his middle name is Hussein. He did sign a document supporting Sharia Law for his cousin in Africa...and he did attend Muslim schools for four years. But he was a kid when he went to those schools, he had to go where his parents sent him. As for the document? I will save that for later. But I don't think he is Islamic. I think he is opportunistic and radical but not Muslim.
I don't label Obama as a socialist, he did it to himself. He joined the Socialist New Party when he first ran for public office. He filled out a position paper as a new lawmaker taking radical leftist positions. He attend a church based on Marxist principles mixed with racial politics for twenty years. He labeled himself.
He numbered William Ayers and Rashid Khalidi and Frank Marshall Davis as friends and mentors, so I don't have to call him out as a radical. He has shown himself to be a radical. Why shouldn't he sign on to his cousin enacting Sharia Law? We all know the rulers in such states live as they please anyway. It is merely the people who suffer.
He went back on his promise to take and be limited to Federal Matching campaign funds. He lied about his position on the Born Alive law. He lied about his level of association with Ayers. He lied about his involvement with ACORN and their illegal activities. He is a liar, I don't have to make anything up.
Barack Obama has his website rigged to deliberately take illegal contributions and, despite proof of this, refuses to fix the problem. A proper investigation into this already begun has already proven that he has taken illegal foreign donations and fake donations. He got a shady business deal on giant suburban mansion in association with slumlord crook Tony Rezko and made sure Rezko was benefitted in return. He is a man of questionable character.
But what truly angered me and should anger you is when I found out that William Ayers and his wife Bernadette Dorn, both terrorists, had written a book called Prairie Fire and that they dedicated the book, in part, to Sirhan Sirhan!
Excerpt: "Socialism is the total opposite of capitalism/imperialism. It is the rejection of empire and white supremacy. Socialism is the violent overthrow of the bourgeoisie, the establishment of the dictatorship of the proletariat, and the eradication of the social system based on profit. Socialism means control of the productive forces for the good of the whole community instead of the few who live on hilltops and in mansions. Socialism means priorities based on human need instead of corporate greed. Socialism creates the conditions for a decent and creative quality of life for all."
Zombietime says, "Page 40 of the manuscript is typical: It outlines the Weather Underground's strategies for overthrowing the United States. Among the many strategies are: eliminating the feeling of patriotism among the general public, destroying the government from within, and starting a mass insurrection among the lower classes."
(I guess that is why Obama dislikes those of us who are still "clinging to our guns and religion?")
"And why is this relevant? Because if he believed it in 1974, and still believes it in 2008, then he almost certainly continued to believe it in 1995-2006, the period during which Barack Obama had his associations with Ayers. There is no evidence whatsoever that Ayers went through some "right-wing phase" (which would have been totally out of character) nor had any diminution of his political fervor. As far as anyone can tell, and according to Ayers himself, he has had a consistent and unchanged philosophy from the 1960s up until the present."
Dedicated to Sirhan Sirhan, killer of Robert Kennedy. The first Democrat I supported for President was killed by someone admired by a colleague and confidant and mentor of the 2008 Democratic candidate!!! Something has gone terribly wrong with the Democratic Party in 2008. Robert Kennedy might find himself running in the Republican primaries if he had been born forty years later. I don't think he would recognize what is passing for a Democrat these days.
LET ME TELL YOU ALL SOMETHING IMPORTANT! Whereas Barack Obama wants to fundamentally change this country and believes that the Constitution is flawed (he has said those things), the American people will not agree. Many in his own party will not agree. When people begin to understand what he wants to do in terms of redistribution of other people's incomes and his plan to tear down the Constitution by appointing judges who wish to alter it by means of their decrees, some members of his own party will oppose him.
If we are fortunate, he will not be elected and we, as a country, will not face this grave danger to the very foundation of America. We will not be propelled into a deep depression and we will not be besieged by terrorist attacks on our outposts and on our very soil. John McCain can win. Tuesday is not here yet!
But if the worst happens, and Barack Obama is elected, I will still love my country. I will still fight to be heard. I will still seek to rally opposition to the terrible plans he is making to change the United States of America into the Socialist Republic of America. I believe that conservatives and moderates and many Democrats will join me in opposing his ideas.
People do the work and the government should do what it can to give us a chance to do it and otherwise stay the heck away. Put out the fires, lock up the bad guys, fight wars, defend the shores, pass the laws that are necessary and quit spending so much! That is what we need from government. Marxist dogma may sound good to the elitist ear, but in practice it winds up dividing us into poor people, poorer people, the political elite and organized crime. Ever hear of a country called Russia?
If the worst happens, it is even more important for every blog and every radio talk show host and every thinking American to keep an eye on Washington than ever before. Ideological and class warfare is about to begin. Me? I am and will remain on the side of an America that is the land of the free and the home of the brave, where a man can worship God if he wishes and where a man gets to keep the majority of what he earns from his ingenuity and toil. Where a man can own his own shotgun, put a welcome home sign on his garage, watch football on Sunday afternoon and know that he won't be jailed for having an opinion.
