The New McCarthyism is Waxmania: Silencing the Capitalists

As Pejman Yousefzadeh noted on twitter Sunday, for eight long years we were treated to leftists decrying the Bush administration and Republicans. Their motto was “If you aren’t outraged, you haven’t been paying attention.”

Now this same group is outraged that we are paying attention. They are outraged that we are outraged. And they are now playing at a most dangerous game.

Congressman Henry Waxman intends to haul before Congress corporations that have told their employees to expect increased health care costs because of Obamacare. This is behavior that can indisputably be described as soviet behavior. If McCarthyism was about hounding out communists and their sympathizers, the left seems intent on creating their own version of McCarthyism, which we can call Waxmania — silencing capitalists.

We have seen this abuse over and over from the Democrats in the past year. Waxman is a chief abuser, wanting to haul in insurance companies and other companies that have opposed the left’s agenda.

Barack Obama himself encouraged his supporters to bring guns to knife fights and get in conservatives’ faces. Where was the media handwringing back then over incitement? Why wasn’t the media bothering to mention, at least, the bipartisan “fighting words” in the past week?

On the editorial pages of major newspapers and on the news programming of major television networks we are treated to stories undercounting attendance at tea party events and painting the typical tea party activist as thuggish, racist, and violent. It is a coordinated effort to turn the media narrative from sitting on the sidelines with the exception of MSNBC to full throated condemnatory reporting on the tea party movement.

In just the past few weeks, news outlets that used to use the words “pro-choice” and “pro-life” are changing to “abortion advocates” and “anti-abortion.” That may sound fine to you, but to many Americans, the psychology in the word choice “anti-” hurts the pro-life cause. The suddenness of the media change suggests a coordinated effort. It happened overnight in dozens of news outlets.

The Left is playing for keeps. They have the power structure in their hands and they intend to make it permanent as best they can. They project on us their intimidation and thuggish behavior.

The right must fight. It is not a violent fight. It is vigilance in the political arena. We must pressure our own side in Congress to stand firm and fight like hell politically. We must also expose the left and not back down. And we must put up good candidates and work like hell to get them elected.

Lefists had hoped that after the health care vote, their poll numbers would go up and the right would stand down. We are just now fighting like our life depends on it because we realize now the survival of the American way of life as we know it is at stake.

We’ve taken down ACORN. We’ve taken down Van Jones. We’ve taken down Obama’s TSA nominee. We can take down the Democrats in November.

By the way, when I suggest that someone be "taken down" politically I mean by utilizing a vote or a court challenge and not force.

When I first heard this I thought maybe it was a bunch of GI Joes playing bang bang in the woods. Now it appears they were a bunch of whack jobs. Whereas Christian whack jobs are way down the list of whack jobs by percentage a whack job is a whack job. Not a Christian. In fact, people in the time of Christ wanted Him to lead a rebellion when He was there to give Himself away for others.

No sane Christian is plotting to shoot police officers. No sane ANYONE is plotting to shoot police officers.

Obama's administration has led us to personal income loss in 42 of 50 states and the highest deficit in history. He is just getting warmed up. It isn't another great depression...yet.

Radar,
Amen brother! Unfortunately it looks like ACORN has morphed into a dozen other smaller organizations that will continue to operate and be tougher to keep track of.

We need to be as determined as the Left is.

I see you posted the results of an Internet poll. The results of those are heavily weighted by who finds out about them first and starts running their auto-voting scripts. Based on all the "F" grades I'd guess that Freerepublic got a big head start on Dailykos this time around. Good for them!

Obviously this has nothing to do with President Obama's approval ratings in real life, which is why CBS had to put in the disclaimer. News sites like to run these polls because they generate lots of web page hits, which increases their advertising revenue.

There's a way to estimate what the real-life approval ratings would be, but it's pretty complicated and I'm not even going to try to explain it. Here's an example of that sort of poll from USA Today. (There's a 4% margin of error and you can probably find polls that have slightly different numbers, depending on random chance and the specific wording of the questions.)

Also, I'm glad you warned people about "taking down" their opponents by force. I knew what you meant, but I wasn't sure about your other readers. Some of them seem to be a bit on the gullible side and I'm worried about how they might react to apocalyptic rhetoric like, "soviet behavior" and "the American way of life as we know it is at stake".

Former Bush speechwriter David Frum had a really good essay on this a few days ago: Waterloo. Among other things, he says "Conservative talkers on Fox and talk radio had whipped the Republican voting base into such a frenzy that deal-making was rendered impossible. How do you negotiate with somebody who wants to murder your grandmother? Or – more exactly – with somebody whom your voters have been persuaded to believe wants to murder their grandmother?"

Needless to say, Frum lost his job at American Enterprise Institute for writing that, and he's no longer welcome within the modern Republican Party. That's a shame, really. In order to avoid political corruption, we need to have two mainstream political parties. We've got enough lunatic fringe parties already.

Well I do not believe that we need hyperbole in the political venue. I am unhappy that the Democrats keep playing the race card and it drives me batty when I go to a rally and run into a "truther." Sign.

Although many people disagree with my political and worldview positions I have at least arrived at them with thought and diligence and careful consideration.

I am a state's rights, limited constitution guy. I do not believe in entitlements, I believe in free enterprise and job creation. I believe that collectively we have gone beyond providing a safety net for the bottom 2 per cent of helpless folks to creating a sub-nation of dependents who believe a welfare check and food stamps are part and parcel to the American Dream.

I am a creation by God guy. Most who comment disagree but only the radical claim I do not know my position. First amendment gives us both a free opinion!

At any event I do believe the America I knew and that was is being slowly replaced in a frog-pot scenario where socialism just creeps up on us. This election is a time when we shall see how many frogs have noticed the unusual heat and jump out!

No one should give money to a national party. Both national parties are corrupt and clueless. A large portion of our politicians in Washington are completely out of touch with the people, the Constitution and our national history.

Everyone should pay attention to the candidates in the primaries, pick the best ones, and support them. This country can be resurrected from the bottom up.

Forget about blaming partisanship for the Health Deform Bill. It had bipartisan opposition and frankly the Democrats had to buy out a lot of people to get the monstrosity passed. Now the Democrats are demonizing the companies that are getting slammed by the bill and working on marketing the thing to the public instead of cutting spending and working on job and energy creation!

"Obama's administration has led us to personal income loss in 42 of 50 states and the highest deficit in history. "

Um, the current deficit is mostly the Republicans' doing. Do some research.

Instead of posting Internet polls... You should know those are completely worthless, so the reason you're posting them is either because you're gullible or you think your readers are.

"Well I do not believe that we need hyperbole in the political venue."

Some of your recent posts fall solidly into that category though...

Gee, anonymous, Obama has now equaled the deficit of the 8 years of Bush in one year of Obama.

Bush lost the ability to get things done when the Dems got control of both houses in 2006. Chris Dodd and Barney Frank had oversight over the mortgage banking industry and they helped collapse that industry and send the country into a recession.

Obama should have been looking to create jobs and make the environment helpful to businesses so they can grow. Instead he is grabbing for more and more of the private business world to build a bigger nanny state. Of course that means the economy will fall hard. Bush is long gone and the elephants have not had control of budgets and finance since 2006. Your buddy Obama is the cause of all this.

Wow, fact-free finger-pointing, how original.

But it ain't so.

The New York Times is not a valid source. They are staunchly leftist in viewpoint and undependable, which is why their circulation is going down like Obama's ratings and the nation's economy. If they say something is hot, be ready to put on a coat!

We've gone from fact-free finger pointing to a fact-free textbook ad hominem. Complain about the source so you can ignore the argument.

The link was not to an opinion piece, but a set of facts and numbers. So you couldn't find anything in there to disagree with?

So noted.
