I electronically wrote to a man:

Alan Williams
Pace Island Home Owners Association
1545 Royal Fern LaneOrange Park, FL 32003
(904) 278-6560

and told him this:

"I am a vet from the Viet era. I remember walking through the airport in San Francisco to jeers and hatred instead of appreciation. You are one very lucky man that people like me, my dad and my son have all stepped forward and willingly put aside our lives and plans to defend our great country. My father-in-law was shot out of the sky and beaten and stabbed by the Nazis on the way to prison camp. My dad fought in Korea, my son in Afghanistan. And you? You fight to keep the subdivision free from welcome home signs for a returning veteran! Aren't you proud of yourself?"

Why? Because of this story from October 13th, 2008.
revealed in this blog...

"ORANGE PARK, FL -- It was supposed to be a very special homecoming. After being in Iraq 15 months, SPC Lauren Boitet was going to see her family.

"I'm just glad to be home," says SPC Lauren Boitet.

The family was rolling out the red carpet, so to speak, but the homecoming was dampened by the homeowner association rules.

"They removed the welcome home signs and balloons and flags," says Natalie Boitet.

Boitet says when they tried to recover the signs it turned into a confrontation with the association manager.

The Boitet family says the signs could have stayed up for a couple of hours. They say in the past the association had ignored other signs.

"There have been signs for birthdays and parties and they've never taken them down," says Dyan Boitet.

Boitet says there has to be exceptions to the rules.

Alan Williams is President of the Pace Island Homeowners Association. He said the problem is the signs and where they were located. Williams says flags are exempt from HOA rules.

Williams says the signs were in common areas and a resident complained that they could be viewed as political and supporting the war. Williams says that's why the signs were removed.

The association president says there are exceptions.

Williams says any resident can pick up the phone and call any board member for prior approval.

Williams says that did not happen.

Dyan Boitet says he will propose changes to the association rules at its next meeting."

Some people make it hard to like people. I was at Fort Benjamin Harrison when they began housing draft dodgers who were trying to return to the states. They were coming from Canada primarily, being housed in the barracks on the East side of the post. I had been drafted right out of college but I went anyway. They ran and now were slinking back.

I told myself some of them just didn't have the fortitude to stay and stand up as against fighting and therefore consciencious objectors. Maybe some left for their beliefs but I think most left out of cowardice and it was hard to be on the post with them.

When I was drafted, I screamed out in rage! I had a scholarship, I had a career path, no one had been drafted out of college before this particular year (and no one would any subsequent year as the collective rage of Americans made the politicians realize it was political suicide to support) and doggone it, it wasn't right! I had a Mustang convertible, a job that fit in with my class schedule, a girlfriend, a bright future.

My dad told me he would move the whole family to Canada if I thought I should evade being drafted. I don't know if he meant it or if he simply wanted me to consider how big the decision was and how much he supported me, his only son, no matter what I did. You know the story if you've read my blog for too long. Even as a teenager I realized there was more to life than just me. I decided that my country meant more to me than my distaste for the War.

As for the draft-dodging returnees, I realized that it was their problem, not mine. Thirty some years later, I can be proud that I served and they still have to live with what they did. I've forgiven, forgotten, and if you were one of them I don't even want to know. Truth is, as a young man you sometimes make decisions you regret terribly. I am sure plenty of the deserters have become wonderful men and worthwhile citizens. That one mistake has been forgiven by society and also by me.

But a grown man who goes and tears down welcome home signs for a returning veteran, a young person who gave up a big chunk of her life and risked that very life to serve every one of us? Not just crass, not just stupid, not simply unpatriotic and not just craven but symbolic of a greater truth: When "they" say they are against the war but they support the troops? Hogwash! More often than not, they don't support either one but don't have the guts to say it. Actions speak louder than words!

So I emailed the guy. He will probably just delete it. Made me feel better anyway.

Update! Yes, the Democrats did illegally access records on Joe the Plumber. Cover-up has already begun!

An Iraqi Veteran speaks to Barack Obama

Eric Musselman, former NBA head coach (and probably a future one as well) writes a wonderful blog. He wrote concerning the principles he gleaned from Stephen Covey's new book, The Speed Of Trust and I am going to excerpt his thoughts here:

Trust is grounded in character (integrity, motives, intent) and competence (skills, capabilities, results, track record). "Character is a constant; it's necessary for trust in any circumstance. Competence is situational; it depends on what the circumstance requires."

Credibility also plays an important role of trust. It's grounded in four factors. The first two deal with character. The second two deal with competence.

1. Integrity: Walking your talk. Acting in accordance with your values and beliefs.

2. Intent: Our motives and agenda.

3. Capabilities: Abilities that inspire confidence -- talents, attitudes, skills, knowledge, and style.

4. Results: Track record, performance, getting the right things done.

You can enhance your credibility by increasing your capabilities:

1. Play to your strengths. "Feed strengths and starve weaknesses." Make your weaknesses irrelevant.

2. Keep yourself relevant by continuously learning new things.

3. Know where you're going. "At the end of the day, people follow those who know where they're going."

Covey then lays out 13 behaviors of "high-trust people and leaders worldwide." I've listed them here:

1. Talk straight. This is honesty in action. It's based on "the principles of integrity, honesty, and straightforwardness." Talking straight means (1) telling the truth and (2) leaving the right impression. Use simple language. Let people know where you stand. On the other hand, beating round the bush, withholding information, double-talk, spinning -- all of these behaviors diminish trust.

2. Demonstrate respect. Show you care. Be kind. You can't fake this, so don't try.

3. Be transparent. Be open. It's about being real. Authentic. Operate on the premise of "what you see if what you get."

4. Right your wrongs. This means more than just saying you're sorry. It means making restitution. It's taking action and doing what you can to correct the mistake -- and then doing more than what's necessary or expected.

5. Show loyalty. How? By giving credit to others, speaking about others as if they're present, and acknowledging the roles of others, regardless of their title.

6. Deliver results. If you want to build trust fast, the best way to do it is by delivering results. Don't overhype. "Look for people who are short on talk and long on delivery. Give the best opportunities to the big producer who doesn't talk rather than the big talker who doesn't produce."

7. Get better. "Unless we improve our capabilities dramatically, we're going to be inadequate to the challenge." We get better by seeking feedback and learning from our mistakes. "Be a constant learner. Act on feedback you receive. Don't consider yourself above feedback."

8. Confront reality. "Take issues head one, even the 'undiscussables.' Address the tough stuff directly. Acknowledge the unsaid. Don't skirt the real issues. Don't bury your head in the sand."

9. Clarify expectations. Understanding that "almost all conflict is a result of violated expectations," work to "create a shared vision and agreement about what is to be done up front. This is one of those behaviors that people rarely pay enough attention to. If you focus on this one up front, you will avoid heartaches and headaches later on." Discuss expectations. "Don't assume that they're clear or shared."

10. Practice accountability. "A good leader takes more than their fair share of the blame and gives more than their share of the credit." Because we live in an "increasingly victimized society," many people don't want to accept responsibility. This creates "dependency and distrust." As the author puts it: "Accountability builds extraordinary trust when people feel secure that everyone will be held to certain standards." Failure to do so "creates a sense of disappointment, inequity, and insecurity."

11. Listen first. "When you listen first, you get insight and understanding you wouldn't have had. You make better decisions. And you show respect. The impact on trust is amazing."

12. Keep commitments. This is big: "To break commitments or violate promises is the quickest way to destroy trust. When you make a commitment, you build hope. When you keep it, you build trust."

13. Extend trust. "Most people are capable of being trusted, want to be trusted, and will run with trust when it is extended to them. 'False trust' giving people the responsibility, but not the authority or the resources to get a task done. By extending trust, you empower people."

Covey concludes that "leaders who extend trust to us become our mentors, models, and heroes. We're overwhelmed with gratitude when we think about them and about the difference they have made in our lives."
I will be posting later to follow up on my earlier post about why I am voting for John McCain. Just let me ask you, based upon what you have just read, which Presidential candidate best fits these criteria?

On a personal note, I did a lot of work to put together a large and very expensive true IPS solution for a multi-national company. The solution was for their office on the West coast of the USA. We thought we had a deal to close in October, but the whole thing has been put on hold. The company HQ is in Japan and Japanese stocks fell along with US stocks as the Fannie/Freddie fiasco (caused by Democrats, as you know) helped impact the world markets.

Now my big deal is on hold. The Japan HQ has withdrawn their purchase order. They want to see who is elected President and how the business world reacts. The implication is that an Obama win may be popular to the news outlets around the world, but businesses are fearful. If McCain wins, I may yet get this deal, because it is on life support but not yet dead. If Obama wins, they will pull the feeding tube and send the body of my deal to the morgue. So I now have a stake in the election financially!

But as I discussed this with the local company representative I realized that financially this election would be important to me anyway. The economy might do okay at first under an Obama administration but the higher taxation will take jobs away and chase businesses to other shores. Since I can only sell legally to the US and Canada without jumping through various hoops, this will hurt my business endeavors so I have realized it isn't just my heart and mind and my regard for my country, it is my wallet and my family and my house on the line as well. Barack Obama is a threat to the well-being of my family until we face ruin and which time he apparently would step in by policy and give us enough help once we are considered the working poor and maybe even find a way to scrape by with government support and assistance.

In despair, I might decide to ask for help because of my injuries and seek handicapped status. But that goes against my personal beliefs. As long as I can make my way in this world I want no special parking spaces nor do I need for Uncle Sam to support me simply because I have injuries that have taken away my ability to work most jobs. I can still work a desk job, which plenty of healthy Americans do by choice.

No, that is the way of surrender. I'll continue to fight for what I see as Truth, even if Obama begins to "fundamentally change America" as he vowed he would do in a campaign speech made on Thursday the 30th of October.

Is this the action of a trustworthy President? Below from Drudge:

The Obama campaign has decided to heave out three newspapers from its plane for the final days of its blitz across battleground states -- and all three endorsed Sen. John McCain for president! The NY POST, WASHINGTON TIMES and DALLAS MORNING NEWS have all been told to move out by Sunday to make room for network bigwigs -- and possibly for the inclusion of reporters from two black magazines, ESSENCE and JET, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.

Despite pleas from top editors of the three newspapers that have covered the campaign for months at extraordinary cost, the Obama campaign says their reporters -- and possibly others -- will have to vacate their coveted seats so more power players can document the final days of Sen. Barack Obama's historic campaign to become the first black American president.

MORE Some told the DRUDGE REPORT that the reporters are being ousted to bring on documentary film-makers to record the final days; others expect to see on board more sympathetic members of the media, including the NY TIMES' Maureen Dowd, who once complained that she was barred from McCain's Straight Talk Express airplane. After a week of quiet but desperate behind-the-scenes negotiations, the reporters of the three papers heard last night that they were definitely off for the final swing. They are already planning how to cover the final days by flying commercial or driving from event to event. "

If one press member is especially annoying, Obama could do as McCain did and tell her to get her own plane and let the NYT send someone in her place. Candidates have that right. But tossing out entire news organizations because they endorsed the other candidate? Wow.

Pastor Martin Niemöller penned these words in the last century, yet they still ring true:

"In Germany, they came first for the Communists, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Communist;
And then they came for the trade unionists, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a trade unionist;
And then they came for the Jews, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Jew;
And then . . . they came for me . . . And by that time there was no one left to speak up."

The Obama administration would be coming for the "big oil companies" and "rich executives" and free speech on talk radio and then all big companies and then all executives and then all businesses and all property owners and all newspapers who oppose them and then all who make more than the national average income and all bloggers and then...?

Can Obama fundamentally change the USA? If he has a full majority in both houses, the radical side of the party is prepared to bring as many radical leftists into the federal courts as they can, which will impact this nation for decades to come. More about this election in my next post.

Why the military supports John McCain and...

The Democrats say they support the military but the military doesn't support their policies. Early military results are overwhelmingly pro-McCain. Yes, the guys and gals with their butts on the line want to finish the job in Iraq and want John McCain as Commander-In-Chief!

Greyhawk writes:

"Surprise — at least one poll shows a huge McCain lead: “[Senator John] McCain, R-Ariz., handily defeated Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., 68 percent to 23 percent in a voluntary survey of 4,293 active-duty, National Guard, and reserve subscribers and former subscribers to Army Times, Navy Times, Marine Corps Times, and Air Force Times.” Or perhaps not so surprising: there’s a history involved here.

In 1864 the nation was nearing the end of the Civil War — but some wanted it ended sooner than others. Democrats offered a platform declaring that it was “the sense of the American people, that after four years of failure to restore the Union by the experiment of war, during which . . . the Constitution itself has been disregarded in every part, . . . justice, humanity, liberty, and the public welfare demand that immediate efforts be made for a cessation of hostilities.” In short: end the war now.

Their candidate was General (still on active duty throughout the presidential campaign) George McClellan. He assured voters that restoration of the Union was a worthwhile endeavor, but hinted that other goals had since corrupted the purpose of the war he himself had once waged and nearly lost. “The Union is the one condition of peace,” McClellan wrote. “We ask no more.” He likewise pledged to restore America’s standing in the eyes of the world — in his words, “resume our commanding position among the nations of the earth.”

And along with all that, Democrats supported the troops:
Resolved, that the sympathy of the Democratic Party is heartily and earnestly extended to the soldiery of our army and sailors of our navy, who are and have been in the field and on the sea under the flag of our country, and, in the events of its attaining power, they will receive all the care, protection, and regard that the brave soldiers and sailors of the republic have so nobly earned.

Which was a good thing because America was trying something brand new that year: “absentee voting” — intended to ensure that those troops would be able to cast their ballots, too. But while Republicans claimed that voting was “a right vested in the individual which could adequately be exercised through written media, regardless of location,” Democrats countered that votes must be cast in person: “Like marriages and wills, votes required competent witnesses, defined by the Democrats as fellow citizens with shared concerns and responsibilities. Army officers appointed by the federal government could not fill this role. These conservative Democratic views of the mid-19th century seem alien to our thinking today, as absentee voting has since become a firmly established practice.”

So as Sherman marched on Atlanta a different sort of war was waged in the North:
Wisconsin was the first to permit their soldiers to vote in the field through absentee ballots. California, Connecticut, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New York, Ohio, and Pennsylvania all followed suit. However, Illinois, Indiana, and New Jersey, which all had Democratic-controlled state legislatures, did not pass legislation allowing soldiers to vote in the field.

But Secretary of War Edwin Stanton ensured the troops were given absentee ballots or granted leave to vote in person, and Lincoln himself asked General Sherman to allow Indiana soldiers to return home to vote. Lincoln was reelected with 55 percent of the popular vote and an Electoral College landslide, and while not decisive in the election, he received over 70 percent of the military vote."

Read the rest of the article here... Note that there is an attempt being made to keep military ballots from counting in the election this year, at least in Virginia! By Democrats, of course.

Speaking of talking softly and carrying a big stick (a concept Obama fails to grasp)...

Michael Yon gives some background to the strike on Syria:

"Late Sunday, U.S. Special Forces struck positions across the Syrian-Iraq border, inside of Syria, apparently killing nine people, most of whom were non-Syrian Arab fighters on their way into Iraq. Of course there is a great cry rising from the Syrians today.

For years, tons of explosives and a long line of foreign terrorists have streamed across the Syrian border into Anbar Province and Nineveh Province in Iraq. I must have spent a total of about nine months in Nineveh, about eight of which were in the capital of Mosul, and another month in Anbar.

Foreign terrorists were caught or killed on a regular basis, and they all had the same story: they came from an alphabet soup of Arab countries — Algeria, Jordan, Libya, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tunisia, and Yemen, to name a handful. They had come through Syria. I remember the day the Libyan was captured in 2005: Iraqis were trying to force him to wear a suicide vest to attack police in Mosul. I remember the night, a raid that I did not go on, when the Tunisians were captured in 2005, resulting in hand-to-hand combat that did not go well for the Tunisians. The owner of the safe house was captured with a diary listing dates and effects for years of attacks; that diary actually matched up perfectly with SIGACT reports of the same incidents. The Tunisians were captured with all sorts of documentation, as I recall, that chronicled their long journey by all modes of transport to get through to Syria and across into Mosul.

It is extremely safe to say that many hundreds, indeed thousands, of Iraqis have been killed by the handiwork of foreign fighters. Untold tons of munitions have flowed across the border over time. Those arms are a lifeline to the remnants of al-Qaeda in Iraq. Anbar has gone mostly quiet and Special Forces and conventional forces have been making progress up there in Nineveh, but Mosul is the last serious redoubt of al-Qaeda in Iraq, as well as other insurgent groups. (Diyala still has some problems.) In 2007 and early 2008 when I was last there, explosives were coming in through Syria. In fact, the last combat mission I did in Iraq this year was with a Special Forces team that specifically was searching for weapons coming in through Syria."

Read the rest here...

Note how he ends the article - "Still, now comes the political posturing. The Iraqi government has condemned the action and is claiming that they didn’t authorize the U.S. attack. Of course Syria is doing the same. That’s okay. This is one way we give the new Iraqi government cover to do what has to be done. We can take the blame; they have to coexist with their neighbors. So we are a convenient public bad guy for both sides. But there is little doubt that Iraqis are taking some comfort that the “bad guy” is not respecting a border that is violated repeatedly by Syria. Syria has played a dangerous game, with few consequences until yesterday. If Syria wants its border to be respected, it will have to respect the border with Iraq."

In real geopolitics, you can bomb Syria and you can bomb Pakistan. You can allow Pakistan and Iraq and Syria to all throw up their hands in alarm for general consumption. Behind the scenes, diplomates and world leaders know what is up. John McCain understands this, while Obama has made it crystal clear that he does not!

If you prefer George McClellan and Jimmy Carter to Abraham Lincoln and Ronald Reagan, you will vote for Obama over McCain. God help us all!

Part Two - Why I am voting for John McCain and Sarah Palin

My virtual campaign button!!!
It occurs to me that there will be more than just two parts, but here is the NEXT thing, anyway.

First, let's establish things that have no importance in the race for the Presidency:

1) Physical Characteristics - "Red or yellow, black or white, they are precious in His sight..." Race is not a reason to vote for or against a candidate. Neither is gender, age, height, weight, eye or hair color or other physical characteristics.

2) Financial Status - No matter if you are quite wealthy or just very average financially (Such as Governor Palin), you are equally eligible to run. Wealth doesn't have to ruin you nor does it make you superior. It simply makes opportunities that are otherwise hard to come by.

In that regard, I have had to rely on the blogosphere and embedded reporters like Michael Yon and actual veterans like Charles and Cecil and my son Robert and my friend Tom and my friend Chris and others who have been there and come back and told me what went on. They've shared stories with me and pictures and videos. I cannot afford to go to the Sandbox but I have worked hard to bring the Sandbox to me. I know enlisted men and officers as well. I have spoken to MP's and IED hunters and riflemen and mechanics and guys who regularly went over the wire. Because I want to know and I care.

Then there are things that have significance but are not overwhelmingly so:

1) Party Affiliation - Seriously. Parties can change. There was once a party named the Democratic Republicans! The affiliation alone doesn't always mean that much, although right now each party has some basic things it stands for in opposition to the other party. Individuals may, however, differ enough to still make voting for the man (or woman) rather than the party what the wise voter will do. I have voted for far more Republicans than Democrats in my life, but I have voted for both and I even voted for a Democrat in the 2004 election (a local candidate). Colin Powell calls himself a Republican but supports Obama. Joe Lieberman calls himself a Democrat but supports McCain.

2) Health issues - If a candidate is a diabetic or was a cancer patient in remission or so on, any health issue must be weighed carefully. Is there a condition that is life-threatening? That is then an issue. Is it simply annoying or very moderate? Different deal. FDR ran the country from a wheelchair for a few years, after all. No one at the top of either ticket has any health issues that we know of, so that is not applicable this year.

"Good and evil both increase at compound interest. That is why the little decisions you and I make every day are of such infinite importance." – C. S. Lewis

Now we get to the issues. What issues are important to me? What things should be considered? I will begin...

1) National Security Philosophy - John McCain is a military veteran who has been to and graduated War College. He pushed for the surge in Iraq and it worked. He has a good understanding of military tactics and strategies and real world political positions. We are in a world war against terrorists. Iraq and Afghanistan are fronts in that war but we have seen other fronts. Lebanon. Syria. Pakistan. The World Trade Center. John McCain is ready to handle these issues. He believes in the Teddy Roosevelt softly and carry a big stick.

I don't want a President who will follow the Jimmy Carter demilitarization and unilateral disarmament path. Joe Biden stated that Barack would be tested by enemy powers and his positions would not look correct to us at first. Barack has stated he intends to back off of our defense systems that protect us from atomic attack via ICBM. He intends to back off of our position of power. That is just dangerous and stupid. The world isn't waiting for us to disarm so they can follow suit. The world would like us to disarm so they can attack us and attack our allies without fear of reprisal. Barack Obama wants us to lay the stick down and believe the bad guys will, also. Yeah, right! It didn't work for Jimmy Carter. It didn't work for Neville Chamberlain. It won't work now, either.
"It is impossible to defeat an ignorant man in argument." – William G McAdoo

2) Judicial Appointments - John McCain believes that the people have the right to enact laws and that the courts should only interpret them in accordance with the wording of the Constitution. It is clear that Obama wants an even more activist court that changes the Constitution to suit their partisan belief systems. He has said so himself. I want strict Constitutional interpretation in my judges, handing down justice that is not tilted towards one side or the other but rather is even-handed and lawful. The next President likely appoints two new Supreme Court justices and several hundred other federal positions in the judiciary.
"Error of opinion may be tolerated where reason is left free to combat it." – Thomas Jefferson

3) Economic Issues/Energy Issues - John McCain is a believer in the American free enterprise system. He believes that you let people have their own money and give them the opportunities to grow and create wealth and jobs so that the country as a whole can prosper. He also saw Fannie and Freddie coming and, had he been President in 2005, could have forced Congress to at least vote on the issue of reining in the crazed loan binge back then and kept us from reaching an economic meltdown. The Democratic leadership would not even let that bill go to a vote. Barack Obama was one of the guys who wanted it to continue and approved of the policies of Fannie and Freddie up until the time they went belly-up. In any event, John McCain would put a freeze on any new spending or spending increases and make all programs prove that they are being run fiscally honestly and responsibly. He will seek to decrease earmarks in any way that he can. He has plans in place to make health coverage available to all Americans via tax credits and changes in regulations that currently add costs to health plans available now.

John McCain wants to drill for oil and natural gas all the more to ease our dependence on foreign oil. He wants nuclear plants built and clean coal plants built while we work on improving alternate technologies. He wants to keep the current tax breaks in place that were working until energy costs and the Democratic mortgage loan financial debacle caused the markets to crash.

Barack Obama has a viewpoint that we should take more money from corporations and from wealthier Americans and give it to the poor. He doesn't mind that one percent of the population is already paying 60% of the tax bill and that we have the second highest corporate tax rate in the Western world! He doesn't consider the byproduct of taxing companies and wealthy individuals even more...that the richest people will manage to move their official residences elsewhere and companies will simply move to more favorable economic climates. Whereas giving poor people a chance to work and make money builds the economy, just giving them a check or a free house or free medical insurance only sucks the wind out of the economy.
"Spoon feeding is the long run teaches us nothing but the shape of the spoon." – E. M. Forster

Barack thinks paying off the middle class with a tax break will blind them to the devastations he will bring to the top of the industrial food chain. If our big corporations move away and take the jobs with them, what middle class will there be?

Barack thinks we should basically ignore our oil and gas reserves and force new technology to happen and take over the job of energy production. It is fine and good to demand that technology happen overnight but that will not make it so. What energy will power the country while new technologies are being developed? Countries like China will just drill far offshore and "side-sip" our reserves if we don't get at them and then where will we be?

4) Subset to point one is the War On Terror - If you have not read Michael Yon's posts from Iraq and Afghanistan AT THE VERY LEAST then you probably simply believe the slanted viewpoints of talking heads at MSNBC and CBS and NBC and so on. The war went south for awhile until we got General Petraeus on the job and implemented the surge techniques. We took on the Sunni Army soldiers and helped them become more professional and made sure they were getting paid. We worked to build schools and get electricity turned on. Now Iraq is changing rapidly for the better. John McCain knows we need to keep doing this stuff. We need Iraq to get to the point they can govern themselves and defend themselves with us as allies rather than as the defense itself.

Take the time to read a few dozen of Yon's dispatches, read some military blogs, find out what the military people and the people who are over there or have been over there believe. Read the Iraqi blogs, there are lots of them out there.

Afghanistan is crying out for the same techniques. John McCain will help us win the war in Iraq and the war in Afghanistan and he is ready for the next conflict whenever it should occur. Barack Obama wants to pull out of Iraq whether they are ready or not. He has no clue in terms of what works in Afghanistan, based on his remarks about taking potshots at Osama on Pakistani territory. Even if you are going to do something like that, you cannot announce it to the world. You might well notify Pakistan unofficially that you are going to blow up a terrorist's compound but there is no Pakistani regime that could remain in power and agree to such a move officially. They would be forced to condemn it even if, unofficially of course, they knew it was coming. Even I understand that much. The United States works this was occasionally in Pakistan or Syria and I don't mean just under George Bush. Bill Clinton did the same thing. Did he tell the world first? Of course not!
"The things that will destroy America are peace at any price, prosperity at any cost, safety first instead of duty first, the love of soft living, and the getting-rich-quick theory of life." – Theodore Roosevelt.
"The desire for safety stands against every great and noble enterprise." – Tacitus

5) Social Issues - Christianity and Judaism are under attack. Our founding fathers were almost entirely God-believing and never intended for the government to be in the business of banning or eliminating faith, but rather simply not setting up a State Church as had been done in England and other European countries with disastrous results. The basic values on which our country was founded are in need of defending. Both McCain and Palin are people who share the basic belief that free people should be free to worship and that our heritage should not be torn down and mocked. Marriage has always been between a man and a woman. Abortion, until 1973, was considered to be murder in most cases and if the people and legislatures had their way it would continue to be that way.

Barack Obama's cousin (Raila Odinga) is an Islamic regimist who, along with Barack, signed an agreement that his country, Kenya, should establish Islamic Sharia Law. We are talking 2006 here, this isn't something that happened long ago! Obama is a man who attended a non-Christian "church" that teaches Liberation Theology, which is basically an almalgam of Jesuit and Machievellian and Marxist principles in the guise of a normal religion. With a host of other friends and associates who are either Marxists, socialists, terrorists, crooks or some mixture thereof, we cannot believe that Obama will bring a normal American attitude towards society into the White House. We know he voted against the Born Alive Infant Protection Bill one time at least and "present" (as he often has in difficult circumstances) on at least one other occasion. Obama doesn't even want babies who are entirely out of the womb to be protected if the mother intended to kill them!!! "Punished with a baby" as he said on national television gives us an idea of what he thinks of the sanctity of lives other than his own.
"Abortion is advocated only by persons who have themselves been born." – Ronald Reagan

6) Leadership - Which brings us to leadership qualities. John McCain has proven himself to be decisive and tough and willing to follow his head and heart whether the bulk of his party leadership agrees with him or not. It caused him to be labeled the "Maverick of the Senate" and frankly made it unlikely he would win the Republican nomination. He had not kowtowed enough to the main Republican themes. Some of his decisions I think were wrong. But I give him credit for being decisive and tough and his own man.

Barack Obama's tendency as a legislator to vote "present" on all sorts of critical issues is disturbing. His shifting stands on nuclear energy and drilling and whether Jeremiah Wright is a spiritual leader and mentor and his misrepresentation of his voting records and his political past all present a picture of an ambitious guy who will do and say things to get ahead and try not to stir up the waters as he goes. He has not had the intestinal fortitude to just vote yes or no on major bills so many times that it is hard to believe he will make a decision on a critical situation like another Russian attack on an ally.

7) Experience - McCain has led men and had responsibility for the command of military units and organizations. He has been specifically trained to lead men into battle and to understand the command elements from the point of view of command. He has many terms as Senator from Arizona under his belt as well. He was tried in the hot fire of the Hanoi Hilton and came out more proud of his country and more willing and wanting to serve than before they systematically tortured and starved him. His running mate has much managerial experience, including that of Governor of Alaska, duties which included being commander in chief of the Alaskan National Guard.

Obama's running mate, Joe Biden, also has many years of experience in the United States Senate and has served in areas that included foreign policy, so he has the experience necessary to take over the job should something befall the President. But Barack Obama has far less experience than not only the Republican Presidential candidate, but even the VP candidate. Barack has been a community organizer and has a short career as a legislator. His campaign has been successful but it has spent amazing amounts of money and is being run very poorly. You can be sure his donation system is already under federal scrutiny. He plans on spending as much money in Florida as McCain has spent in the entire nation! But he will find that simply throwing huge amounts of money at problems in the White House will mean taxing the people and they will very quickly be angered by it.
"Prosperity doth best discover vice; but adversity doth best discover virtue" – Sir Francis Bacon

8) Honesty and Integrity - The Straight Talk Express is John McCain. Love him or hate him, you know he has been honest with the people and has served out of personal conviction. His wife has for many years donated time and money working with poor and medically needy orphans overseas. The McCains are wealthy. They don't have to come out and get their hands dirty helping others. Yet for years they have done precisely that, and not to move ahead politically. It is easy for a rich man to donate money to a cause. But give your life to the military for a few years or give your life to poor starving orphans whose skin color and background is very different from your own. This is what the McCains have done.

John McCain has consistently traveled to the areas where the American military men and women are fighting. He has talked with them, entered into shaky areas with them, asked them about the situation and discussed things with their commanders. He is a war hero and a patriot.

Barack Obama has not. In fact, when he went to Germany he made a big speech for the cameras but, when he found out while visiting the troops there would be no cameras to record him with them, he decided he didn't have time for that and went to workout at a gym instead. Even Governor Palin went over to Kuwait (staging area for those going to Iraq and Afghanistan, normally) with her National Guardsmen as they were readying to deploy further inland and spoke with them, got the feel for what they were feeling and thinking and showed her support. But for Obama, if there was no soundbite/video feed opportunity he wasn't going to bother.

Barack Obama certainly never went to visit Iraq when he began telling everyone what should be done over there, although he had the means.

Governor Palin has a son now serving in Iraq. Her family believes in serving this country. The Palins are the only family in this race that is not wealthy. She campaigned for governor in fleece and sometimes snowpants. She and her husband both had to work to support the family. Yet she ruled against her husband's primary employer in order to get the best bid on the natural gas pipeline for Alaska even if it threatened the financial well-being of her own family. Shame on all of you who lie about her and disrespect her because she is a woman or a Christian or speaks like most people north of Minneapolis, Minnesota speak.

Barack Obama champions the poor, but he seeks to set up a system of wealth distribution in which he would be at the top of the food chain. His work in community organizing always wound up getting introduced to various political operatives who found campaign funds for him and offices to win. His early career was staged and planned by Chicago Machine operatives. He is hiding behind lawyers now to avoid revealing records concerning his past. We really don't know why. Is he really a citizen? Did he lose his citizenship? Was his college paid for largely or in part by Islamic terrorists? We speculate wildly because he is not honest enough to just provide the documentation. When he accepted a sweetheart deal to buy a multi-million dollar property via Tony Rezko, slumlord and crook, he later was found out and said it was " boneheaded." Nice defense. So if the police stop me with a high alcoholic content while speeding in my car, can I just tell them I was boneheaded and they will let me go? I think not.

Senator Biden now has a son serving in Iraq. His family believes in serving this country. Obviously the Democrats have their candidates backwards. Biden makes more gaffes than Dan Quayle has years on this earth but he doggone well has an opinion and he will state it. He has experience. His policies are not to my liking, but I can respect his leadership abilities and his history of service. His story of caring for his children when his first wife passed away is inspirational for me. I've been a single dad as well. I know how hard that had to be.

I respect John McCain. I respect Sarah Palin. I respect Joe Biden. I cannot trust Barack Obama.

Summary of the first eight areas of consideration for my vote:

McCain and Palin far better reflect my values and the policies that are more likely to keep this country both safe and strong and to continue to be uniquely American.

Joe Biden is a worthy candidate with whom I disagree in many areas. I would not vote for him but I don't consider him a dangerous threat to the American way of life. However, his running mate is another story. Worse, his running mate is at the top of the ticket. I consider Barack Obama to be unsuitable for President of the United States and, quite frankly, unsuitable for public office at all.

More issues to come, like Immigration Policy for instance and also the Christian Perspective on the vote...

Two Part Post - The Obama Questions and the Issues

Cartoon courtesy of Gary McCoy

My next column will deal with the issues. Not charges or innuendoes or that kind of junk. This post is going to finish up pointing out some of that stuff...and there is a lot to point out. There are some things I want to get out of my craw and pass out to the readers. The primary reason I feel I need to do this is because the major news media won't do it.

So I am get some of this out there today and then tomorrow I can sit down and tell you why I am voting for John McCain and go over the issues. It will be a positive and informative post and hopefully one that inspires thought and discussion.

This post is designed to open the eyes of those who are blindly following after a candidate who has consistently hidden his past life and associations and continues do do so. It is about a news media who is in the back pocket of the Democratic Party to an alarming degree. I want to be sure you see this stuff and then I dare you to check it out for yourself. Don't be lemmings.

Are Democratic Party hacks investigating "Joe the plumber" illegally using government computers? Looks that way.

"State and local officials are investigating if state and law-enforcement computer systems were illegally accessed when they were tapped for personal information about "Joe the Plumber."
Samuel Joseph Wurzelbacher became part of the national political lexicon Oct. 15 when Republican presidential candidate John McCain mentioned him frequently during his final debate with Democrat Barack Obama.

The 34-year-old from the Toledo suburb of Holland is held out by McCain as an example of an American who would be harmed by Obama's tax proposals.

Public records requested by The Dispatch disclose that information on Wurzelbacher's driver's license or his sport-utility vehicle was pulled from the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles database three times shortly after the debate.

Information on Wurzelbacher was accessed by accounts assigned to the office of Ohio Attorney General Nancy H. Rogers, the Cuyahoga County Child Support Enforcement Agency and the Toledo Police Department..."

.,Did you know the Obama campaign is selling access to his election night coverage? The charges are amazing and are arrogant in the extreme. Charging news media for the right to cover his possible victory party (or loss funeral) in lumps of hundreds and even thousands of dollars!!!!

Obama campaign cuts off WFTV after interview with Joe Biden

You tube version here.

WFTV-Channel 9's Barbara West conducted a satellite interview with Sen. Joe Biden on Thursday. A friend says it's some of the best entertainment he's seen recently. What do you think?

West wondered about Sen. Barack Obama's comment, to Joe the Plumber, about spreading the wealth. She quoted Karl Marx and asked how Obama isn't being a Marxist with the "spreading the wealth" comment.

"Are you joking?" said Biden, who is Obama's running mate. "No," West said.

West later asked Biden about his comments that Obama could be tested early on as president. She wondered if the Delaware senator was saying America's days as the world's leading power were over.

"I don't know who's writing your questions," Biden shot back.

Biden so disliked West's line of questioning that the Obama campaign canceled a WFTV interview with Jill Biden, the candidate's wife.

"This cancellation is non-negotiable, and further opportunities for your station to interview with this campaign are unlikely, at best for the duration of the remaining days until the election," wrote Laura K. McGinnis, Central Florida communications director for the Obama campaign.

McGinnis said the Biden cancellation was "a result of her husband's experience yesterday during the satellite interview with Barbara West."

Here's a link to the interview:

WFTV news director Bob Jordan said, "When you get a shot to ask these candidates, you want to make the most of it. They usually give you five minutes."

Jordan said political campaigns in general pick and choose the stations they like. And stations often pose softball questions during the satellite interviews.

"Mr. Biden didn't like the questions," Jordan said. "We choose not to ask softball questions."

Jordan added, "I'm crying foul on this one."

What did you think of the interview?
The Obama campaign has already told it's followers to flood radio programs who they do not life with phone calls and emails and have asked the Justice Department to investigate a critic. They have cut off this TV station. Will they pull a Hugo Chavez and shut down dissident media once in office?

When John Murtha is allowed to call our soldiers war criminals and get away with not apologizing when he is proven to be a liar, when he says his own constituency are a bunch of prejudiced rednecks, MSM says little or nothing. When Joe Biden says that a new President Obama would be tested by the bad guys of the world, thus possibly endangering our very existence, NBC News doesn't even report on it. Why? They are too busy complaining that the Republican Party bought Sarah Palin a campaign wardrobe. Seems Palin, unlike the usual rich folks who run for office, doesn't have a closet full of pricey clothing. WOW, hard and important breaking news!!! I bet the Obama campaign spends more on flags to throw away than the Republicans spent on Palin clothing. They spend four or five dollars for every one the McCain campaign can spend, because, unlike Obama, McCain kept his pledge to adhere to the Campaign Finance matching funds. Yet another promise Obama has broken.

Four former secretaries of state have declared their support for McCain. Have you even heard about that? Or have you only heard about Colin Powell coming out for Obama after getting a promise of a place in the Obama administration?

John Stephenson let me know about an employee of the LA Times who is sitting on a video that would be explosive in nature if released. Jim Hoft has the scoop:

Excerpt: LA Times writer Peter Wallsten wrote about Barack Obama's close association with former Palestinian operative Rashid Khalidi back in April.Wallsten discussed a dinner held back in 2003 in honor of Khalidi, a critic of Israel and advocate for Palestinian rights.Barack Obama has denied his close association with Khalidi, too.According to Wallsten the evening not surprisingly turned into a classic Jew-bash:

"During the dinner a young Palestinian American recited a poem accusing the Israeli government of terrorism in its treatment of Palestinians and sharply criticizing U.S. support of Israel. If Palestinians cannot secure their own land, she said, "then you will never see a day of peace."One speaker likened "Zionist settlers on the West Bank" to Osama bin Laden, saying both had been "blinded by ideology."Barack Obama also praised the former PLO operative during the event. And, Obama confessed that his family often shared dinner with the Khalidis:
His many talks with the Khalidis, Obama said, had been "consistent reminders to me of my own blind spots and my own biases... It's for that reason that I'm hoping that, for many years to come, we continue that conversation -- a conversation that is necessary not just around Mona and Rashid's dinner table," but around "this entire world."...The event was videotaped, and a copy of the tape was obtained by The Times.

Here is a video explaining his ties to Obama.

Allow me to say that small dead animals has gotten ahold of Barry's scrapbook, so here I give him a chance to tell you about himself. Click and see!

Last, I will quote Scott Swett on his take of the Obama Questions:

The puzzle pieces are falling into place, and a chilling picture is emerging:

Barack Obama’s mentor and long-time minister Jeremiah Wright called upon God to “damn America.” Wright also preached that America deserved the 9/11 attacks, and claimed that the US government created AIDS in order to kill black people.

Obama worked closely for several years with the former Weather Underground bomber Bill Ayers. Ayers hosted the fundraiser that launched Obama’s political career with his wife Bernardine Dohrn, also a communist and a former terrorist.

As an attorney in Illinois, Obama represented ACORN, the radical community organizing group that set the stage for the 2008 financial crisis by pressuring banks to make high-risk mortgage loans. Obama later sent millions of dollars to ACORN while working with Bill Ayers at the Chicago Annenberg Challenge. In 2007 Obama promised ACORN members that if elected, he would be “calling all of you in” during the post-election transition “to help us shape the agenda.” His presidential campaign paid the group more than $800,000 in 2008. ACORN is currently being investigated for election fraud in more than a dozen states.

Obama’s primary financial backer in Chicago, political fixer Tony Rezko, was convicted of 16 felonies including fraud, money laundering and abetting bribery.

Archived documents of the Marxist Chicago “New Party” show that Obama was a member in the 1990’s. His campaign had previously denied any connection.

In 2006, Obama spent six days in Kenya campaigning for Marxist presidential candidate Raila Odinga. His Senate staff coordinated donations to Odinga’s campaign totaling nearly $1 million. Obama declared at numerous rallies that Kenyans “are now yearning for change.” Meanwhile, Odinga signed a declaration of understanding with Muslim leaders recognizing Islam as Kenya’s “only true religion.” After Odinga’s defeat, his thugs started riots that killed at least 1,000 people and destroyed or damaged 800 Christian churches. More than 50 people, mostly women and children, were burned to death in a single church while men with machetes attacked anyone who tried to escape. Kenya’s elected government was then forced to accept a “power-sharing” agreement with Odinga’s party.

Obama has been praised by Fidel Castro, Daniel Ortega, and the terrorist group Hamas. Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan says Obama is “the Messiah.”

America’s “mainstream” media organizations have gone out of their way to ignore or dismiss these disturbing facts, protecting the flawed candidate they favor – a man who could not pass the background check required to obtain a basic security clearance.

Instead, they spend their time investigating the life of “Joe the Plumber,” to deflect attention away from Barack Obama’s revealing promise to “spread the wealth around.”

Perhaps we can figure out why...

Barack Obama, Sr is first photo

Frank Marshall Davis, Jr? is the second

Frank Marshall Davis is the bottom picture.
Above them all is the mother, Stanley Ann Dunham.

Which one doesn't belong in this set???

WAS COMMUNIST FRANK MARSHALL DAVIS MERELY OBAMA'S MENTOR? Or was he his father? If so, that would put an end to the "Obama is not eligible for President" quest...unless his citizenship was renounced for him by his Indonesian stepfather. But that was in the last post. But he absolutely would not want this to come would explain the reticence to release normal records.

Barack Obama may be a US Natural Born citizen and yet not be Barack Obama!

Barack's Hawaii mission might be to make sure his grandmother doesn't spill the beans to an investigator who is working on this story in Hawaii.

"Martin makes the assumption that the sudden decision of Sen Obama to suspend his campaign and rush to Hawaii was out of fear that his grandmother would divulge the secrets to Martin, or perhaps make a death bed confession that would embarrass the senator.

If true, the revelations certainly explain why the relations between grandmother and grandson have appeared to be so strained for decades. Martin points to photos appearing in the local newspapers of a young Obama hugging his grandmother -- photos more than 30 years old. There are no photos of the two that are less than 25 years old."

It also makes it easier to understand why Obama is a socialist and used to admit it!
Gateway Pundit (read on down beyond the first video as well) has discovered that Obama is righttherewith Jeremiah Wright and Bill Ayers after all...sick.
We also now have proof that Obama truly is a Moon Bat!!!!!!!

October surprise part two

This is also worth reading. The Obama who will not release his records abandons his campaign to run to Hawaii, but why? Also, is the video guy a squirrel? Well, even a blind...

October surprise part one, which is also below...

More Obama Islamic ties.

Journalism dot org notes that media coverage of McCain has been terribly unfair...did you know that NBC News didn't even mention or quote Biden's admission that an Obama Presidency would be tested by our enemies? If you watch NBC News you have no clue what is really going on.

John Edwards versus Sarah Palin - Democrats pay women to take clothes off and Republicans pay them to put clothes on! Guess what? Designers will give candidates clothes FOR FREE just to say they clothed a candidate. Governor Palin is a genuine middle-class woman who didn't have a big wardrobe like Michelle Obama or Cyndi McCain so the Republican Party decided to pay for her campaign wardrobe...and will then donate most of it to charity. Not asking for freebies. I dare Nancy Pelosi, so rich she probably has jewelry that costs more than Palin's entire wardrobe, to say a word!

Are any of you focused on Palin's wardrobe instead of stuff that matters????

Are the media talking about that to deflect coverage of this?

Has anyone noticed how businesses are laying off workers in preparation for an assumed Obama win? I guarantee you that the markets will jump and employment figures will rise if McCain is elected because businesses in general know who will help the economy and who will hurt it. Only millionaires and billionaires who are drinking the liberal Kool-Aid or expect favors from Obama are actively supporting his campaign.

Why won't Barack reveal himself through documentation?

Here is October surprise part one

If Barack Obama does not resolve this before the election and was to be elected President, the Constitutional crisis would be the biggest we have ever faced!

His campaign finances will also probably not bear scrutiny.

Not to mention ACORN, that group being investigated for thousands upon thousands of phony voter registrations and voter fraud as well, aside from ties with Obama and having been paid to work for him, has also found itself being investigated for felonious use of charitable monies for political purposes.

I have said that Obama and those who support him intend to buy the election. I think that he is a socialist and it is pretty obvious to me that he is. But he may also be a fraud and in fact it is possible he will wind up either deported or behind bars before he can get elected. You go ahead and say what you will...but if you don't check this stuff out for yourself you are being wise. What if we elect Obama and it is then determined that he was not even a legal candidate? What would happen to him would be nothing compared to what it would do to the country and also the Democratic Party. This needs to be resolved and pronto!

Let's also take this socialism debate a step farther. Gary Schneider writes on this here.

I will give you a couple of excerpts:

"Liberals continue to maintain that Socialist ideals and policy are relevant in today’s market of ideas and actively promote spurious notions to popularize the need for their agenda. Now, many contend that Liberalism is not Socialism; However, I submit that Liberalism is Socialism by other means. So, in order to understand the Liberal mindset, you must understand Socialism.
Fundamentally, Socialism is the complete discarding of the institution of private property by transforming it to public property. The resulting public income is to be, then, equally and indiscriminately distributed to the population (Liberals strive toward this end through the levying of taxes and tight governmental controls). In Socialism, private property is anathema to this objective.

The main tenets of Socialism are:

1. Abolition of private property

2. Equality of income (“From each according to his ability, to each according to his need” – Karl Marx)

3. Class interests oppose each other (class struggle)

4. Government is, or should be the progressive representation of the interests of the working class"

So very straightforward. He also says:

"Furthermore, Socialists believe that Socialism is an evolutionary process that will manifest itself in the later stages of Capitalism. Capitalism, they contend, will eventually run out of property to privatize and land to appropriate due to population increases and other variables resulting in the need to rent or lease property. Due to this, a group of “haves and have nots” arise, leading to the creation of a class hierarchy where there is an upper class (non-working parasites), middle class (employers and managers) and worker class (“proletariat”). In this paradigm, the rich get richer and the worker class is exploited to further support the luxuries demanded by the upper class…while getting poorer. Such societies then become unproductive and unable to sustain a requisite level of employment and quality of life for its people. It is at this stage where Socialism is believed to arise against the Capitalist system. Only rich and poor now exist, inequality becomes unbearable and the government has to intervene to redistribute the wealth via many means, but primarily through the levy of multiple forms of taxation.

Modern Socialism also contends that Capitalism must be exported to where new land can be appropriated and workers exploited to sustain its insatiable gluttony.

The problem for the Left is that the doctrine they hold so dear has all been proven false by history and reality…and they don’t want to let go. After a century and a half of tyranny and catastrophic economic failures, along with the inarguable benefits to the human condition wrought by Capitalism, the Left is now forced to re-package their convictions, revise history, identify new “victims” and champion new causes in order to sustain the orthodoxy. As Daniel J. Flynn establishes, in his book “Why the Left Hates America”, the Left has substituted their overt hysterics regarding the evils of Capitalism, with the new hysterics of racism, sexism, xenophobia, homophobia, etc., etc. However, the enemy remains the same. America, as the globe’s preeminent cultural, political (Democratic), economic (Capitalist) and military power, is now decried as a cultural oppressor … propagating inequality both inside and outside of its borders. Government is again to be the final distributor of cultural equality … as well as economic equality. Liberal causes now collectively rally around the banner of this nefarious new notion of American repressive cultural hegemony that is proliferated by “intolerant rednecks” and imposed by American military and economic might. Nearly all contemporary Liberal causes and policy can be traced back to any one or more of these (and/or the aforementioned) basic tenets of Socialism, or “Neo-Socialism”."

He goes into detail in the following areas:

Relativism/Multi-Culturalism/ Racism/ Homophobia/ Xenophobia

Anti (Judeo-Christian) Religion-ism

“Peace” Activism

Gary maintains that, "...not a Single Socialist or Communist state has ever existed that has been popularly elected or otherwise sustained by the will of its people. Socialist-Communist regimes have, throughout history, maintained power solely through the strict imposition of personal, cultural and intellectual martial law. The media, schools, arts and literature have all been strictly controlled to manage thought and freedom of ideas. It should be no surprise then that the liberal establishment maintains a covetous and disproportionate control over our educational institutions, media (with the exception of radio) and the arts. The packaging may be slightly different today, but the tactics are largely the same and quite plain to see. You need only review the statements and policies espoused by “civil rights” groups, “anti-war” organizations, the ACLU, Teacher’s Unions and the curricula of our institutions of higher education (indoctrination?) to quickly assess that our most basic American freedoms are at risk from the Left. Oppression (factual, intellectual, or otherwise) is the only means by which the Socialist agenda can succeed."

Ain't it the truth, ain't it the truth even? (as Snagglepuss would say).

Update: believes it has the evidence that Barack was born in Hawaii. It does not explain why Obama is blocking release of all these other documents and his actual birth certificate but I did want to present what the other side is saying. Factcheck is pretty good usually, but then again it is owned by the same Annenberg organization that employed both Obama and William Ayers for many years, so they are not exactly unbiased in this case. Their list of contributing sources leans rather left if you go ahead and look at them.

Jobs is not a three letter word.

Update: Mark has Marked his Biden Words thoroughly here! As my astute Sophomore-in-high-school-but-very-savvy young friend told me tonight, "Joe Biden is the gift that keeps on giving!"

Part one is answering Chaos...

"Full-time firemen are paid to do their jobs, get promotions for years served effectively and get demoted or fired for not doing the job." (I said this in answer to a question. Chaos will be in blue and me in black.)

Chaos then replied as follows:

Well, yes, but the fire department is still run by the government. Isn't that socialism? Actually, I think the problem is that we're using different defintions of "socialism". I'd define a socialist program as one where:

(1) Most funding comes from the taxpayers.

(2) Services are provided to everyone who needs them, mostly regardless of ability to pay.

(3) High-level policy decisions are made by the people-as-a-whole, acting through their elected representatives.Examples of this kind of socialism in the US include the fire department, the police, the public school system, and the military. (I wouldn't mind adding health care to the list; I think that would be less flawed than the current system.)But after reading your reply, I *think* you're defining "socialism" as "a system where everyone gets paid the same salary regardless of how much work they do." If that's the case, then I've got good news for you: Sen. Obama isn't a socialist! Actually, I don't think there are any socialists around anymore. (There might have been some in the 1960's but I never got to meet one.)

Allow me to answer those points...

(1) Most funding comes from the taxpayers.

Answer: Government programs are necessarily mostly funded by the taxpayers, yes, good or bad. So far no problem specifically, there are some things that government does well, which is why we formed one back in the 18th century.

(2) Services are provided to everyone who needs them, mostly regardless of ability to pay.

Answer: Here is where socialism creeps in. Your key word here is "services." I can understand the military and the police and so on being services, and I can understand municipalities deciding to have wastewater services and provide a city water supply as a service and I can understand when they decide to charge for them.

But owning a home is not a service, even if ACORN or Barney Frank or Barack Obama think it is, nor is it a right. Getting a monthly check is not a service nor is it a right. Barack Obama is planning to give even more money for various reasons to people who don't even pay into the tax system and that is wealth redistribution, otherwise known as socialism.

I think one of the highest crimes of the 20th century was the "Great Society" programs begun on Lyndon Baines Johnson's watch that has created ghettos full of women having children outside of marriage and living off of welfare checks while men are incented NOT to marry these women lest the free money to take care of "baby momma" and kids be cut off. The welfare society is almost a reintroduction of slavery in another form. The Democrats count on the votes of the inner-city poor and keep them poor by giving them money enough to live on but taking away the incentive to do more and be more. Many of the young men turn to crime to enrich themselves and street gangs thrive in that climate. One reason major cities are "owned" by the Democrats is that the Dems have created a sub-class of welfare serfs who live to provide votes for their political masters. Hell is alive and well in South Chicago and in East Chicago and Gary and I have seen it up close and personal.

The sad truth of that particular matter is that the majority of this created sub-class are people of color or origin that are non-European. White elitists like Bill Ayers and Nancy Pelosi are all for this kind of program but Ayers lives high on the hog subverting our youth in large part at government expense and Nancy does, too, in large part from her plantations in central California. Funny how school voucher systems have proven to greatly aid the education process and Democrats are dead set against them, isn't it? You think maybe they prefer the electorate to come in two flavors: the indoctrinated rich and the uneducated poor.

Barack wants to expand the socialistic persona of government, it is who he is and what he believes.

(3) High-level policy decisions are made by the people-as-a-whole, acting through their elected representatives.

Answer: You would think so, but in recent decades the Judiciary has begun making laws by judicial fiat, frustrating the Constitution and the purpose for which the courts were created. It has now become common for the Supreme Court to make up laws based on nonexistent Constitutional language like "separation of church and state" or use privacy laws to make the killing of millions of unborn babies a reality.

Part Two is answering Creeper. Things creeper said in blue, me in black.

"That Obama is a socialist is too obvious to waste time on."

Now you've got me ROTFLMAO...!

"But the article on socialism I linked is a thorough look at what socialism is and what happens when it is applied to society."

Now tell us what it has to do with Obama's platform.Your shifty evasion above makes me suspect that you didn't really think this accusation through - once again you seem to have just taken on whatever talking points happened to be on the specials menu at Stop the ACLU or wherever and swallowed them hook, line and sinker.Chaos engineer makes very good points, especially re. how the two of you may have different definitions of socialism in mind. There are perfectly good dictionaries for this kind of thing, but since Radar is fond of making up his own definitions to suit his purposes, let's try it this way:

1. Radar, how would you define socialism?

Answer: That is why I linked that long article, that is how I define socialism. Wasn't it long and specific enough? But a simple answer would begin with forced wealth redistribution and common sharing (or government ownership) of property. It is a system that has never worked.

There is not one trace of evasion in that post, it was to the point and very thorough.

2. Radar, how is Obama's platform "socialist"?

Because he believes part of the job of government is wealth redistribution, simple as that. Barack Obama wants to make the government into Robin Hood. But if you keep robbing from the corporations and the jobs and the people who work hard to get ahead, they will move to a neighborhood where they don't get robbed! Once he raises taxes on businesses and large corporations, many of them will simply pack up and move. If he stifles the expansion and growth of small businesses, more and more people will be lining up with their hands out while fewer and fewer will have enough in their pockets to shell out. The end, as it was in the Soviet Union, is a failing economy, an underground economy and necessarily a growth in organized crime.

Joe Biden said " jobs" was a three-letter word last week, hahahaha! But maybe he meant it. Because they are going to be spelled "o-u-t."

3. And if we go by such an innocuous explanation of socialism as chaos engineer proposes here, then how is Obama's platform socialist in what you would consider a bad way?-- creeper

Wealth redistribution isn't anything innocuous, it is insidious. It is Marxist. It is not America. We are a federal republic, built on free trade and free enterprise. The right to be free to succeed if you can and will is going to be turned into Big Brother decides who gets what and when.

The frog is already in the pot. The heat has been on for awhile but not enough to make us TOO uncomfortable with the socialistic bent of our country in the last 80 years or so. But turn that heat up a few more notches and we'll all be cooked. Allow me to introduce to you...Chef Obama!

Is it okay with you if ACORN steals the election?

You probably are aware that an ACORN worker provided the starting lineup of the Dallas Cowboys as registered voters in Nevada. Did you know that after ACORN submitted their piles of registrations that there are now more registered voters in Indianapolis than the actual population of the city, children and babies included?! From my emails I have also gleaned this information:

CNN's Drew Griffin reports from Lake County, Indiana:

"ACORN's in trouble all across the country with it's a huge voter-registration drive. Actually, 1.3 million new voters registered according to ACORN. The problem is, are they really voters? Up in Lake County, Indiana, they're finding out they are not. Some 5,000 applications came in, all filled out by ACORN, and there they are. They went through the first 2,100 of them, every single one of them, fraudulent." On October 13, Fox News interviewed two newly registered young men in Ohio. One said he'd registered with ACORN 15 times! Another said he registered 73 times! Both said the ACORN canvassers pleaded: "If you don't sign I'll lose my job."

The above really ticks me off! I live in Lake County, Indiana. In the last election we had votes being thrown out for being residents of Illinois, for listing empty lots as residences and for being dead, among other things. But we don't know how many fraudulent votes slipped through the cracks. In a way it doesn't matter much because the Democratic Machine has a stranglehold on Northern Lake County and has helped Gary and Hammond and East Chicago turn into one long line of slums and abandonded buildings. The Democrats win every election up there no matter who they run.

The New York Post reported:

"Last July, ACORN settled the largest case of voter fraud in Washington state history. Seven ACORN workers had submitted nearly 2,000 bogus voter forms. According to case records, they flipped through phone books for names to use on the forms, including 'Leon Spinks,' 'Frekkie Magoal' and 'Fruto Boy Crispila.' Three ACORN election hoaxers pleaded guilty in October. A King County prosecutor called ACORN's criminal sabotage 'an act of vandalism upon the voter rolls.'"

Did you know that the current Governor of Washington "won" a controversial election in which she probably got fewer votes and it is likely that fraudulent votes gave her a win that should have been a loss?

And The Wall Street Journal reported:

"In Ohio in 2004, a worker for one affiliate was given crack cocaine in exchange for fraudulent registrations that included underage voters, dead voters and pillars of the community named Mary Poppins, Dick Tracy, and Jive Turkey. During a congressional hearing in Ohio in the aftermath of the 2004 election, officials from several counties in the state explained ACORN's practice of dumping thousands of registration forms in their lap on the submission deadline, even though the forms had been collected months earlier."

Yes, ACORN is being investigate by the FBI in a dozen states and there have been rumbles of problems in 26 states. ACORN is the group that helped push the Democratic Congress to ride Freddie and Fannie hard and put them up wet, causing them to fall over dead. I have posted on that before and you know the deal.

Yesterday I heard Barack Obama urging his supporters to vote on "Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday..." because you never know what might happen. A subtle message to some to use their fake registrations to vote more than once? A plea to vote before the October surprise? We shall see...

I don't know Joe the Plumber BUT I've heard of Karl Marx

I know socialism when I see it and hear it. Barack Obama wants to turn us into the United Socialist States of America. Mark J. Perry explains why Socialism Failed (and will continue to fail). Here is an excerpt:

Socialism is the Big Lie of the twentieth century. While it promised prosperity, equality, and security, it delivered poverty, misery, and tyranny. Equality was achieved only in the sense that everyone was equal in his or her misery.

In the same way that a Ponzi scheme or chain letter initially succeeds but eventually collapses, socialism may show early signs of success. But any accomplishments quickly fade as the fundamental deficiencies of central planning emerge. It is the initial illusion of success that gives government intervention its pernicious, seductive appeal. In the long run, socialism has always proven to be a formula for tyranny and misery.

A pyramid scheme is ultimately unsustainable because it is based on faulty principles. Likewise, collectivism is unsustainable in the long run because it is a flawed theory. Socialism does not work because it is not consistent with fundamental principles of human behavior. The failure of socialism in countries around the world can be traced to one critical defect: it is a system that ignores incentives.

In a capitalist economy, incentives are of the utmost importance. Market prices, the profit-and-loss system of accounting, and private property rights provide an efficient, interrelated system of incentives to guide and direct economic behavior. Capitalism is based on the theory that incentives matter!

Under socialism, incentives either play a minimal role or are ignored totally. A centrally planned economy without market prices or profits, where property is owned by the state, is a system without an effective incentive mechanism to direct economic activity. By failing to emphasize incentives, socialism is a theory inconsistent with human nature and is therefore doomed to fail. Socialism is based on the theory that incentives don't matter!

I strongly encourage you to read the entire article, written in 1995 before any of us heard of Barack Hussein Obama. It explains why socialism has always failed and will always failed and, therefore, why Obama's plans for this country will do great damage to my country. Therefore I am dead set against Obama being elected on the basis of his political philosophies alone. But I believe that character issues take his possible election from the category of bad all the way to dangerous.

Let me tell you what I know about Barack Obama beyond the fact that he is trying to bring us closer to becoming a socialist society.

A family acquaintance who is a slam-dunk Democrat worked with Obama on one of his campaigns. He and his wife are both voting for McCain this year. Why? He said because "Obama is the worst man to ever run for President. He was a very rude, arrogant man of low moral character." This man prefers to not go into details but I believe it will be the first time he has ever voted for a Republican in his life! His experiences have reverbrated throughout his family, an Illinois family accustomed to automatically voting straight Democrat,

Barack Obama is a product of the Chicago Political Machine, who got him elected to public office in the first place and taught him how to play the dirtiest version of the game. The idea that he represents any kind of change other than a change in his pay scale and a change for the worse for America in general is laughable.

Obama has lied about his very strong ties to ACORN and continues to lie about it to this day. Obama has worked with them since the 1990's in one way or another, steered government monies to them, taken campaign funds from them, paid them to get out the vote for him in this election. Barack Obama is a liar on a consistent basis and one of the things he lies about is ACORN. If you don't know, ACORN is the organization that helped push democratic leadership to protect the Fannie/Freddie scam until the entire mortgage/banking system began falling apart.

Barack Obama did begin his political campaign in William Ayer's front room. William Ayers and his wife, Bernadette, are both unrepentant terrorists involved in bombings and murders from their Weatherman days. Ayers may have ghostwritten Obama's first book. Obama has tried to distance himself from Ayers recently but there are many ties there.

Barack Obama is a disciple of Saul Alinsky, a dedicated communist and anti-American who actually dedicated a book to Satan.

Barack Obama got a great deal on a piece of very expensive property while buying it in tandem with Tony Rezko, a crook who is in the news in Illiinois for various felonies. Business as usual in Chicago but sometimes people get caught. Rezko might have a part in bringing down the current Illinois governor.

Khalid al Mansour not only helped get Obama into Harvard, but may have paid a good part of his school bills.

Do I have to remind you that Obama went to a church where the Pastors (plural on purpose) teach hatred, racial politics and are blatantly anti-American? I don't even need to include links on this one, do I? Jeremiah Wright was once characterized by Barack Obama as his spiritual advisor and like family, like an uncle, before it was no longer politically expedient.

Obama was taking hundreds of thousands from Fannie/Freddie/Brothers and etc. and helped his Democratic brothers keep that train running while stifling John McCain's 2005 bill that would have saved us from this crisis. I went over this in great detail in an earlier posting.

Depending on the site, Obama is rated among the top five most liberal Senators and usually number one. Joe Biden is rated at number three on the list. To be the most liberal Democrat is to be a socialist and his programs are certainly socialist in nature.

Like Dick Armey said, Democrats say they love jobs, but they hate employers. Obama's ill-timed comment to "Joe the plumber" about spreading the wealth around was a slip that reveals where he is really coming from. Let me tell you, it didn't work in the Soviet Union and it won't work here.

While Obama may have beaten John Edwards and Hilary Clinton in the primaries, he may have more in common with both Edwards and Hilary (via her husband) than first thought...Vera Baker is being paid and was paid to go away and you have to wonder why? Barack Obama would not be the first Presidential candidate to have a loose cannon, so to speak. But if he is just another Chicago political animal, just another socialist who wants to grow government to run our lives, just a guy who loves terrorists and radicals and crooks, what's a little adultery thrown in?

The big problem at the end of the day is that, if the Barack ticket sweeps the nation, we will have possibly the most liberal Presidential team in the history of this nation with a veto-proof majority in both houses set up perfectly to go forward with their socialist agendas. There will be no limits on abortions whatever, even allowing for the stabbing death of a 95% born infant as long as one bit of his/her body has not yet left the womb. Wealth distribution/class warfare will be the theme of the economic policies. Government will take over medicine and dominate already troubled schools. More controls on our personal lives will be enacted. Small businesses will have trouble making money, large businesses will move overseas or south of the border and it may be that the beginning of a totalitarian form of government will be traced back to the first Obama administration.

Am I an alarmist? Yes! Let me tell you something, I was in the middle of a motel fire once and I awoke to discover that fire was all around me. Smoke obscured my view, but I grabbed the other person in the room and carried her out through the fire and smoke and then began banging on doors to wake people up and get them out! I woke up the manager and made him mad at first for disturbing his peace - until he saw that his business was on fire! He then immediately called the fire department. I saw that place burn to the ground but not one person was seriously hurt in that fire, in part because I was the first one to wake up but in part because I took action and warned everybody of the danger. I am doing the very same thing now.

WAKE UUUUUUUUUUUUPPPPPPPPPPP! Barack Obama is a dangerous man who will do great damage to this country if he is elected. WAKE UUUUUUUUUUUPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
