A Flood interpretation
It would also be instructive to read about the Permian extinction and K/T boundary in light of a gathering of evidence in this post here...and this one as well. It lays out a few of the events of the Flood that can be detected in the sedimentary rocks and reminds all that Uniformitarianism is dead. Massive catastrophic events exponentially larger than anything seen on Earth for thousands of years were not only associated with the Flood, but the post-Flood dynamic era. It took time for the climate to produce the glaciation that caused the Ice Age and plants and animals quickly repopulated the globe even as the Ice Age was beginning. The melting stage of climate normalization then turned the Ice Age into a series of mini-floods that carved out canyons in still-malleable rock.
Remember that many of my posted articles are from Australian and Canadian and New Zealand resources and an occasional Brit as well. So spelling may seem unusual to US readers sometimes?
It’s hard to imagine the scale of a volcanic eruption that could deposit the Deccan Traps, stacks of volcanic rocks one mile deep, spread over 200,000 square miles.

Earth’s Catastrophic Past
Present volcanoes and eruptions are not the key to understanding the earth’s past. The volume of some past lava deposits is much too large to be explained by today’s volcanic activity.
The Biblical Flood
It appears that when Darwinists use "paleosols" and "LIPS" in the same sentence, they are in fact referring to pseudosols. When we look carefully at these ENORMOUS outpourings of lava we can understand why there would be only a few fossils and no soils at all but surely would not expect paleosols as hinted at by commenters. Thus far, no go...So the ball is in the Darwin court now.
