Continental Plates and the Genesis Flood

There have been some new developments regarding plate tectonics, one of which is some interesting observable science. The other one — not so much. Alfred Wegener's proposal of plate tectonics was not accepted at first, but now it is the dominant theory. Biblical creationists take it a step further.

New research about continental plates may lead to earthquake prediction. Also, secular scientists still do not know how plate tectonics began.

We have two rather short articles to consider. First, the one with observable science involved. It is rather impressive how satellite data was used to measure changes in plate movement over several years. Way up there thataway, and slight changes were measured. This may be a stepping stone to predicting earthquakes. According to creation science Genesis Flood models, plate activity was far more pronounced.
A new study published in Nature has found that tectonic plates may change directions rapidly, or “wobble,” several months before a massive quake is released. Scientists are not sure why, but it may lead to a future breakthrough in earthquake predictions.
Jonathan R. Bedford—from the Helmholtz Centre Potsdam, GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences in Potsdam, Germany—and colleagues from several other institutions were monitoring ground stations within the Global Navigation Satellite System. They noticed some odd occurrences five to seven months before a major earthquake. These were no ordinary quakes. These were two of the largest magnitude quakes in recorded history.

After accepting the concept of plate tectonics, uniformitarian geologists have drifted all over the place trying to figure out how the whole thing began. Biblical creationists have plausible models that fit the facts, but those are streng verboten because Papa Darwin needs a mighty long time, his wonders to perform, and secularists (as well as compromising churchians) want to give evolution all the time that's needed. Since they cannot explain what is observed, a new idea was set forward that is chock full o' sciencey jargon such as "perhaps", "maybe", and other that were added to radiometric dating guesswork.
The beginning of modern-style plate tectonics is another unsolved mystery in uniformitarian geology. No secular geologist seems to have a good answer. Some have even speculated that massive meteorites or large mantle plumes could have started the plates moving, but there is little physical evidence to support either.
Recently, another attempt was made to solve this mystery. A new study published in Science Advances has suggested that plate motion may have begun even earlier than first believed: in part of the Precambrian called the Archean.
